Pachter Predicts 3DS Price, Release Date

Wedbush Morgan analyst on his predictions for a 3DS release date and pricing. I know Nintendo don’t sell hardware at a loss like Sony and Microsoft but fingers crossed they keep the price as close to the cost as possible!
“I expect the device to be available only on eBay for its first couple of months. I think that we Westerners won’t have an opportunity to buy before Christmas, so think that sales by Christmas will be limited to a few million in Japan… I see it having huge success as an upgrade device, with sales likely limited only by supply and price. My best guess is that they will price it around 0/£199/€250, so this may limit demand somewhat, and I doubt that Nintendo will manufacture more than 10 – 15 million the first full year… I think that the 3DS’s addressable market is really the current DS market and some overlap with the current PSP market. That’s still a huge market opportunity.”

Sorcery trailer casts a spell
Sony’s PlayStation Move-only Sorcery has received a new trailer, via the on-going Gamescom in Germany, of course.
The minute and a half long clip is all in-game, and all magic. Quite literally.
The game’s currently scheduled for the January-March 2011 window according Sony’s own PlayStation sites. Nothing more precise at the moment.

Sharp rise for Kinect pre-orders

Kinect has ousted quite a bit of doubt surrounding Microsoft’s choice to price the motion sensor at £129.99, as pre-orders for the device are on a sharp rise.
In a report by MCV, at the way things are proceeding, “sources” are expecting pre-orders to reach the 500,000 bar in the UK by launch day.
Kinect’s popularity is also a sign of the times for retailers, as the Kinect was initially condemned by key voices for being priced over £100. Now that it’s showing promise of its success, the same key voices are praising the price tag as “reflective of the product’s playability and appeal to a wide range of customers”.
Phil Moore, sales director for Grainger Games, further elaborates on the matterV: “We have taken a large number of deposits for Kinect already and it is set to become our biggest pre-order to date. This tells us the device’s appeal has not been affected by the price point.”
With Kinect showing hard proof of its impending popularity, it may be about time for Sony to start making its next move (nudge, nudge) to match the motion control wars by the end of this year.
SOCOM 4 slips into 2011

Arguably, among the most awaited games of this year is SOCOM 4, or rather, was. Sony, together with developer Zipper Interactive announced today that the Move-enabled military third-person shooter will in fact hit shelves next year.
Sony says: “We can confirm that SOCOM 4 will be released in 2011. The team is focusing on additional features which will help to deliver the most compelling and immersive SOCOM experience yet. Please look out for further updates and announcements over the coming months.”
Zipper says: “While we’re certainly aware that you’ve been looking forward to playing SOCOM 4 this year, we don’t want to take any shortcuts. Instead, we want to deliver the best and most immersive SOCOM game we possibly can and we’re going to use our extra time to do just that.”
Valve not ruling out more in-house PS3 games

Valve’s Doug Lombardi sounds pleased to be able to bring the well-known developer’s games to Sony’s PlayStation 3. When speaking to PSM3, the marketing honcho mentioned the studio is prepared to fix the wrongdoings of the past, like for instance, The Orange Box… the port, that is.
“Having a dedicated PS3 team allows us to build our PS3 products internally, which we feel is critical for delivering the highest quality version of our products,” expressed Lombardi. And while he added that neither Move nor 3D would be added to any of their current franchises or games in development, he did tease about the possibility of bringing in-house games like Left 4 Dead to the PS3.
“Who knows what the future will bring?”
