5 More of The Worst Trends From This Console Generation
![]()
In December of 2010, I wrote an post about 5 undesirable trends that have emerged in this present console generation. It’s the post that got me my job here at Piki Geek a single year ago following the post created its rounds on Reddit. What much better way to commemorate my 1st complete year as a Piki Geek editor than to rant about five far more trends from this console generation which have rubbed me the incorrect way.
Regrettably, this industry continues to churn out ill-conceived tips and company methods, mostly in pursuit of profit. Now that the end of this generation is within sight, with the Wii U currently announced and rumors flying about new Microsoft and Sony consoles, I’ve come up with 5 much more offenses that can be added to the current list.
5. The Decline of Local Multiplayer
![]()
Proper off the bat, we’ve got a large one here. The decline of split screen and nearby multiplayer wasn’t on the original list, and its absence was speedily pointed out by a lot of. Be concerned not, I’m proper there with you this time, as I too miss the days when local multiplayer was widespread.
3G PS Vita Preorders Got a Little More Attractive

Sony packs in a few far more goodies for PS Vita early adopters of the connected model.
It looks like Sony’s not leaving anything to opportunity when it comes to the pricier models of the Playstation Vita hardware, announcing a new preorder supply for the normal 3G version of the program as nicely as the First Edition package.
If you’ll recall, the normal 3G unit retails for $ 300, and with the new preorder deal, this will contain an 8 GB memory card, a 30-day, 250MB AT&T DataConnect Pass and a Playstation Network game. The memory card is an specially good touch given that despite the fact that several games can actually be saved their cart, greater-end titles like Uncharted: Golden Abyss will need Sony’s proprietary memory card for game saves and the inevitable DLC. As for the data program, consider it like the ubiquitous Xbox Live 30-day free trials which gently straightforward you into paying to play online. All told, the bundle will save you about $ 60. Maintain in thoughts although, when activated, the Data Pass will auto-renew every month at $ 15 unless you cancel it.
The 1st Edition bundle gets slightly beefed up as well, commonly retailing for $ 350, this limited edition will not only contain the previously announced 4 GB memory stick, but the Data Pass and PSN game, all of it arriving on February 15th, a complete week ahead of the wider PS Vita launch. This is all in addition to a limited edition case and a copy of the game Small Deviants.
The only disappointing spot is a lack of adore for gamers who pick up the regular, WiFi-only which runs for $ 250. It might have been a great notion for Sony to add tiered incentives across the board for the eager first buyers. We’ll see how it all shakes out when the Vita launches on February 22nd.

Origin Adds 11 More Publishers, Eyebrows Remain Unraised
![]()
Eleven publishers have signed up to distribute their games with Origin in the coming months. For a limited time, the copies of Trion Worlds’ RIFT sold by way of Origin will have bonus content material which includes a new pet and a pack of rather inconsequential items. So, essentially, a new pet.
Hit the break for the list of other publishers, along with some of their better identified games:
- CD Projekt RED (The Witcher, The Witcher 2)
- Freebird Games (To the Moon)
- Recoil Games (Rochard)
- Autumn Games (Def Jam Rapstar, Jimmie Johnson’s Anything with an Engine, Skullgirls)
- 1C Business (IL-two Sturmovik series, Soldiers: Heroes of Globe War II, Men of War, Kin’s Bounty)
- inXile entertainment (The Bard’s Tale 2004 version, Hunted: The Demon’s Forge)
- Paradox Interactive (Hearts of Iron series, King Arthur series, Majesty series, Mount&Blade series, Europa Universalis series)
- Core Understanding Ltd. (Perhaps you should see for yourself)
- N3V Games (Airport Simulator, Elemental: War of Magic, Battlestar Galactica)
- Robot Entertainment (Orcs Ought to Die!)
Essentially, a lot of indie games, two significant publishers of niche titles along with the biggest developer out of Poland, half of whose games use Steamworks. And children’s educational software program. This must be fun.
Online Multiplayer Patch For ModNation Vita Being Discussed, More Reasons For its Absence Given

Gamers were understandably outraged to discover that Vita title ModNation Racers: Road Trip would have no online multiplayer, something that was exacerbated by the bizarre excuse given that made the lack of an critical feature sound like a bold, evolutionary step. Now, SCE San Diego’s Director of Product Development, Erich Waas, has clarified why on the web wasn’t included, and has given some hope towards inclusion in the future.
Waas took to the PS Weblog comments section to reply to the deluge of angry and confused comments that mainly focused on the baffling excuse, and how they wouldn’t buy the game with out online multiplayer. Waas mentioned (emphasis added):
I appreciate the feedback on the weblog. It’s great to see people passionate about ModNation Racers: Road Trip. As a gamer, if I saw a game I was looking forward to playing didn’t have a feature I wanted, I’d be bummed too. I didn’t expect every person to read the blog and agree with me or for the blog to smooth over powerful feelings on the matter. My intent was to clarify the position the development team took when designing the feat
ure set. A couple of you have mentioned that MNR PSP had on-line play and this is of course correct. But element of the choice to not incorporate MNR:RT at launch was that the percentage of MNR PSP gamers who played on the web. The percentage was in the single digits. I picture if we said MNR PSP didn’t have on the web head-to-head prior to its launch, the reaction would be the same. But in the finish, not numerous actually played on-line head-to-head. All this mentioned, the development team is searching at on the web head-to-head in a patch. This wouldn’t be obtainable day-1 of the PlayStation Vita launch but it is indeed something becoming researched as I kind this.
Third Playable Character and More Revealed At ‘Resident Evil’ Anniversary Event

Who’s the mystery character aiding Chris and Leon in RE: 6? Whoever he is, you’ll get to play him.
Andriasang relayed some interesting tidbits about Resident Evil 6 following last week’s Resident Evil Premiere Party. Interspersed between new tie-in product announcements including manga and a line of RE-branded shades, Executive producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi, producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi and director Eiichiro Sasaki revealed a few more details about the November sequel.
Of particular interest is the currently unnamed third playable character in Resident Evil 6 who is apparently the crew-cut blonde guy in the trailer. It’s unknown how he’s tied to Leon and Chris, the RE team did elaborate a bit on the story, reiterating some of the details of the press release—i.e. Leon has to put down the recently zombified president while Chris is battling the spreading zombie menace in China—as well as naming Secret Service agent accompanying Leon (Helena Harper). Also, “true” zombies, not the parasite-driven cultists of the previous games, will be the main bioweapon the heroes will be facing in the game and while Kobayashi wouldn’t elaborate, he explained that there many secrets surrounding these zombies.
Meanwhile, Kotaku unearthed a listing for the game over on Xbox.com which describes Resident Evil 6 as having six-player co-op. Could this be a beefed-up version of the Mercenaries mode or an actual way to play the game’s campaign using the three leads (and three backup characters)?
Resident Evil 6 will be out on the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 November 20th.
