The Power Of Protest – Petitions In Gaming
Net protest is a potent tool. Its energy even stands testament in the modern gaming sector. The current controversy behind Mass Effect 3′s ending and the subsequent successful protests to change the ending of the game have prompted me to look at the effectiveness of petitioning in the gaming sector. Can gamers truly get what they want through organized online petitions? In brief, yes, and the time is now.
Operation Rainfall
Inside the final year, an online petition named Operation Rainfall has been making gaming headlines on each and every significant web site – probabilities are you know what it’s about (you can skip ahead). Operation Rainfall is a fan-made petition to localize 3 Japanese RPGs for North America – Xenoblade Chronicles, The Last Story, and Pandora’s Tower. Although accessible in Japan, Nintendo of America created no announcement of releasing these games in North America. Operation Rainfall began in response.
Just going beyond forum wish listing, Operation Rainfall focused their operations on sending emails, Facebook, and Twitter comments to Nintendo of America along with other far more exclusive efforts, such as pre-ordering the games on Amazon, even when they haven’t been announced for North America. As reported on Platform Nation practically a year ago, Nintendo responded, appreciating the interest from fans but set the record straight - there had been no plans to release the games in North America.
Jump ahead less than a year later and Operation Rainfall has been a good results – Xenoblade Chronicles is due to be released this week on April 6th. The Last Story is not far behind, with a June 19th release date. Pandora’s Tower has but to be announced for North America, but its European localization this month is a very good sign. Congrats Operation Rainfall.

Toonami Returns With A Mass Effect 3 Review

If you’ve in no way heard of Toonami, you missed out on 1 of the greatest animation blocks around. From 1997 to 2008, Cartoon Network bundled the best of action cartoons with each other, and for most of that run, TOM hosted the block. Beyond hosting shows, he had his personal adventures, but played video games, and routinely reviewed them. He also raced Jak from Jak and Daxter, and a show created for Toonami, IGPX, got it is own game for the PlayStation two.
For April Fool’s Day, Adult Swim decided to resurrect the block. For six hours starting at midnight on April 1st, Cartoon Network aired Toonami mainstays Dragonball Z, The Massive O, Gigantor, Yu Yu Hakusho, Outlaw Star, Blue Submarine No. 6, Gundam Wing, Tenchi Muyo, and inducted the original Astro Boy, Trigun, and Bleach into the block’s legacy. To add a bit of standard flair to the interstitals, TOM reviewed Mass Effect 3. The review reminds all of those who loved the old block what Toonami did giving substance to interstitials.
I was blown away. Were you lucky sufficient to catch the block?

A Tale Of Two Shepards: Sometimes The Journey Means More Than The Destination

With all the hoopla in the gaming community over Mass Effect 3′s ending, it can be challenging to remember the personalized rollercoaster ride which were the games themselves. That is, regardless of your thoughts on the ending of ME3, you nevertheless have to give it to Bioware for making a universe that we had been all invested in, although other companies struggle with making only continents or worlds that are believable. Even even though I’m not an avid Codex reader, I nevertheless know the origin, cultures, and names of close to a dozen different races across Mass Effect’s intricate universe. Bioware is the very first video game business to ever produce a series of games that successfully enable the player to experience a single continuous story that was developed by the selections you’ve produced over these final couple of years.

I don’t forget the initial time I skilled the “My Shepard” impact even though playing and talking about Mass Impact two with buddies. Suddenly, this knowledge was mine and the branching off among our thought lines is what gave us ownership our person stories. My 1st Shepard began off in Mass Impact as a Han Solo kind that made most of her selections for personal gains. With ME2, a sudden change occurred and I found myself going on a strictly renegade path except when dealing with my crew. Relationships grew as Jenna (My Primary Shepard) wreaked havoc across the universe with her motley crew close at her side. This diversity in two also gave me a purpose to come back to the game and generate a Paragon Shepard that was named Jareth.
Jareth was the polar opposite of Jenna Shepard as I went totally Paragon with him and was quite choosy with which crew members I befriended, which created for a somewhat catastrophic final mission in Mass Impact 2. This final playthrough was completed a couple weeks prior to I got Mass Impact three in my hands but the groundwork was currently laid for the distinct tales that had been naturally developed as I created my way through the series. I saw Jareth as the hard option creating type that was singular in his pursuit of completing the mission with tiny regard for private gain or loss. Jenna’s was a a lot more individual path through ME2 that had form bonds with her crew that withstood the many challenging alternatives she was creating even though out on the field.

The Picky Geek: Mass Effect 3: Where Everything’s Made Up and Your Choices Don’t Matter
![]()
The bane of fanboys across the ‘verse, The Picky Geek is a column that takes the glaring faults of well-liked games, puts them under a magnifying glass, and leaves them there till they’ve been fried by the sun. With snark, cynicism, and maybe even a tiny hyperbole, Ryan Larrabee explores why he never gets invited to any games market Christmas parties.
Okay, so my final report managed to steer clear of spoiling something, but this one is going to be different. Be ready for any and all story elements to be spoiled. You’ve been warned.
So we all know about Mass Impact 3′s ending. You know, the one exactly where none of your prior options are taken into account, and you are left hanging about what’s really occurred to most of the characters you’ve encountered all through the series. Of course, this is not much a surprise, taking into consideration Mass Impact three disregards far far more of your options than its predecessor.
Let’s begin with the ambassador. No matter who you chose at the end of the first Mass Effect, Udina is presently acting as humanity’s representative on the counsel. Why? So they could use him an excuse for Cerberus to take control of the Citadel, and introduce Kai Leng, the world’s most ineffective assassin. Now don’t get me wrong – I jumped at the chance to shoot that bastard in the heart, and I’ve never clicked a renegade action quicker, but could we at least get some story to back up the sudden alter in leadership? Couldn’t Udina just as very easily have allied with Cerberus as an assistant to the councilor? Could they have chosen somebody else? I do not know what could have changed, but I do know it certainly felt like my option had been invalidated.
