Pokémon Black and White 2 Getting a Global Release This Fall
![]()
Okay, so we’re not seeing a simultaneous global launch for the next set of Pokémon games, but Nintendo’s acquiring a bit closer. According to Joystiq and Nintendo Life, it’s been announced that Pokemon Black and White two will be released in all the nations that aren’t Japan this fall. If you’ll remember, that is only a couple months apart from it is June-slated release in the land of the rising sun. Possibly they’ll get it down at some point.
Also, thanks to both the press releases linked above and our fantastic readers, we’ve learned that Nintendo is producing a point to remind everybody they can play the games in 2D on their 3DS systems. Although the reminder is all well and very good, wouldn’t a perk or two for owners of the 3DS be a small far better? integration with the 3D Pokédex app, maybe?
Indie Links Round-Up: Comprehension

IGF Aspect 2012: At A Distance (Rock, Paper, Shotgun)
“Terry ‘VVVVVV’ Cavanagh’s ultra-minimalist, abstract first-person co-op puzzler At A Distance is nominated for the Nuovo award at this year’s Independent Games Festival. As component of our seemingly infinite series in which we chat to (practically) all the finalists, Terry talks about the idea behind the game, what he’d like to see win at the IGF this year, his disappointment that the Pirate Kart didn’t get a nod, and his answer to the most crucial question of all.”
Gambitious game-centric crowdfunding site launching March 2012 (IndiePub)
“Netherlands-based Symbid today (February 14, 2012) announced that it is launching Gambitious, a new “equity-based crowdfunding platforms for the games industry.””
Offspring Fling (PixelProspector)

Indie studio Practically Human is much more human than most (Joystiq)
“Yesterday morning, Juho Salila went to perform as usual, expecting to streamline the graphics and build a few monsters for Legend of Grimrock, Nearly Human’s imminent dungeon crawler.”
The Last and Final Word: Pippin Barr (Quote Unquote)
“After teaching videogame-style-associated subjects for a year at the IT University of Copenhagen, Pippin Barr felt a duty to truly discover the ropes himself and make some games. And it hasn’t taken him long to discover some good results with releases such as The Artist Is Present and Let’s Play: Ancient Greek Punishment (both of which can be found here). Both managed to get a bunch of positive mainstream coverage.”

New Rumors Point Towards Next CoD Being Black Ops 2

With the very first Black Ops breaking all kinds of sales records (later broken by MW3), it’s no surprise that but yet another Black Ops is probably in development. But if seeking at Activision’s track history at repeatedly reiterating a sales hit wasn’t enough, new rumors also point to a 2012 release of BO2.
Gameblog.fr reports that Amazon France published a page on their site about the existence of Black Ops 2, which was then swiftly removed. Right after reporting about the post, Amazon France ordered the site to take down the story. A tiny later, Joystiq also noticed Call of Duty: Black Ops on a developer’s LinkedIn, further solidifying rumors that kicked off following Activision registered the domain blackops2.com a few weeks ago.
If the past is something to go by, expect CoD: BO to release this November – to record sales.

David Jaffe: “Video Games and Movies Go Together Like Chocolate And Tuna Fish”

David Jaffe has never been 1 to muzzle his thoughts, and when he gets riled up about one thing, he’s very quick to take himself to a keyboard and vent his frustrations. He infamously aired his grievances about a assessment on Joystiq on his public weblog, and he was particular that the comments about his DICE session would rapidly be filling up with comments like “Jaffe’s a fuckin’ idiot.”
Is he proper? Whilst you could not constantly agree with him, it is always heartening to see a person who is passionate and outspoken about their beliefs, and who have the arguments to back them up. Jaffe readily admits that he got into video games due to the fact of the allure of films and that he wanted to put that sort of storytelling into gaming. But he’s also rapid to point out that it does not function, and that developers should not attempt to tell stories or impart philosophies in their games. He also thinks that it is hazardous. Watch his keynote below to find out why.
Highlights include:
- “Sorry I don’t have a PowerPoint slideshow ready, but I’ve been truly busy these final couple of days defending women.”
- “You just made an old woman orgasm.”
- On telling stories in games: “I assume it’s a waste of time and resources, and it has stunted the medium of video games.”
- Our market has the greatest and most vibrant IP creation in existence right now.
- Games that have been intentionally produced with the intent purpose of telling a story or expressing a philosophy: At times these games go off the rails into an location of storytelling and not gameplay. In the beginning of Batman: Arkham City you are chained up and you cannot do something. In that case, we as game developers have lost sight of the gamer mentality of what they brought to the game. It’s not a lot of fun to devote $ 60 bucks and get property and understand that you cannot do something right away.

- A excellent story is a self-support book. A story in which you can recognize your personal humanity and get tools for helping your self. Rocky, Indiana Jones, these characters have the tenacity of finding back up and attempting again. Playing a game is like living life. “How do I get into the shop to purchase all of the ingredients to bake a cake?”
- If you watch a movie like Saving Private Ryan with the invasion of Normandy opening scene, you can take in the lessons and the morales of it, but if you think about yourself on D-Day it’s just “How the fuck do I get to that rock? How do I get to the exit?” This is how you feel when you are playing a great game. You do not feel about the meta-story or the which means of it all.
- I was seduced by the glamor of the films. Those of us that have worked in this industry know that’s all bullshit. It is all PR.
- Executives: You Require To Get A Bullshit Filter. It is so easy to bamboozle you. I can get into a room and pitch a game that’s like Breaking Bad + Sons of Anarchy on a Spaceship + Tarantino. “All you can see is the trailer to a movie that does not in fact exist.”.
- We need to realize the medium and play to the strengths of the medium.

‘Max Payne 3′ Release Date Slips To May, ‘XCOM’ FPS To 2013

Mr. Maximilian Payne to be be delayed by two months although we won’t be seeing the FPS with little gray men till next year.
In an e-mail this morning, Rockstar PR announced that Max Payne three was moving from its initially-announced March 6th release date to Might 15th. The move actually places the bullet time shooter in Rockstar’s next economic quarter and fiscal year alongside XCOM, the shooter reboot of the long-operating method series. As an olive branch to gamers searching to pick up the special edition of the game, Rockstar has announced that they’ve pushed the deadline back to April 2nd so everybody has a likelihood to get the version of the game with the the most bells and whistles.
On the dollars and cents side of issues, this implies the firm will be reporting a net loss for the fiscal year which ends March 31st. Joystiq helpfully breaks this down, explaining that Rockstar’s initially-projected billion dollars in income is being reduced by about a quarter.
Although I get the Max Payne move by a couple of months, the full year delay of XCOM has set off a handful of warning bells—it had also been camping out on the March 6th date but it’s been a little although given that we’ve heard something new about the upcoming FPS. I won’t place any bets on any sort of lack of faith on the game, but this could mean that XCOM demands a bit a lot more time, generating its release date shift more development-minded than related to financial forecasts. Or Rockstar basically desires a major shooter release in 2013—it’s too early to say.

Catwoman DLC sneaks out of new copies of Arkham City *Updated*

There have been reports that players are receiving new copies of Batman: Arkham City packed with Catwoman DLC cards that have no code. This is a major deal, as the Catwoman DLC added a new opening to the game, as well as gameplay portions with the Cat that make up about 10% of the total game experience. Add to that the fact that Catwoman was a highly advertised part of the game, and there’s a recipe for trouble.
The problems don’t stop there though, numerous users are reporting issues redeeming the codes that actually were printed, and some codes for the myriad pre-order skins that were available are not properly redeemable as well (although how widespread the skin issue is has yet to be determined). Rocksteady has only issued a statement through the game’s twitter account so far, but no official word has come down about how things will be resolved.

By all accounts Arkham City is literally the greatest superhero game of all time (our impressions will be on the site in the coming days), but issues like this definitely mar what should be a flawlessly awesome event for gamers. Does this build a bigger case against Online Pass and Content locked behind DLC? Or is this a necessary evil?
Update: There has still been no official solution issued by Rocksteady, but Joystiq got a tip from a reader who received instructions from Warner Bros. customer service:
