Since the inception of the PlayStation Network, gamers have been questioning as to whether Microsoft’s stance on their subscriber-based on the web services would alter, generating them offered for all audiences for free. If this report is not sufficient to reveal what their company plan is, then I do not know what is. According to Praveen Rutnam’s (Microsoft Corporation: Group Product Planner) LinkedIn page, Microsoft has continued plans to create tactics to “further monetize Xbox Live subscriber base.” What does this mean for the Xbox fanbase? Does this mean gamers could move from paying the now base $ 60 a year to perhaps $ 100 a year or perhaps even $ 15 a month?

As a hardcore fan of the Xbox brand, this worries me, as this could potentially mean I and millions of other loyal subscribers could be forced into paying a lot more money or acquiring out. What will this ‘further monetization’ mean for the company as a complete? With the dollar acquiring weaker nonetheless against other international currencies, Microsoft could see this as balancing finances that have started out to dip below projected expectations. Or could this plan for the holiday season finally be valid competitors to Sony’s PlayStation Plus?

Joystiq sticks straight to reporting the story without having giving the fans the appropriate fanfare they deserve. Hunting deeper into the LinkedIn profile, you see that Praveen discusses ‘key consumer insights’ about the market as a complete. To ignore this factor other than just which includes it in a picture negates would could be the prospective that I revealed before: correct competition to Sony’s PlayStation Plus. As Sony doesn’t charge any money for their on the internet service and does not have an interface marketing for PlayStation Network, their way of obtaining fans to help their service was to have them spend a continuous $ 8 per month in order to get free games or early access to new downloadable titles.

What Mr. Rutnam is most likely which means by having a ‘further monetized Xbox Live subscriber base’ is adding an extra service that wouldn’t contradict the current Xbox Reside gold service but as an alternative most most likely compliment it with an additional monthly fee. Could Microsoft lastly be finding their wits about them and finally start off thanking their fanbase by being loyal customers? We’ll have to wait and see at the E3 press conference on June 4th at ten a.m. PST.

It’s been fairly quiet on the Grand Theft Automobile V front given that Rockstar debuted the trailer for the game final year. But if former Rockstar North character animator Alex O’Dwyer’s resume can be believed, the sequel will be dropping sometime subsequent October, according to a post on Joystiq.

It should be noted that Bioshock Infinite is coming out that very same month, and Joystiq rightly points out that it would be uncharacteristic of Rockstar’s parent company Take-Two Interactive to want to double up on key titles like this (plus, GTA titles have consistently had spring releases post Vice City).

Nonetheless, we can all dare to dream, proper?

Sega, Capcom, and Namco Bandai are teasing fans with the announcement of a new 3DS title.

Gaming businesses Sega, Capcom, and Namco Bandai are teasing fans with the announcement of a new 3DS title. What that title is though could be anyone’s guess. The three organizations have been updating this project for a whilst although it has just come to my consideration with its teaser internet site. The teaser web site appears dark and almost like a horror game. The video seems at odds with what several believe the game to be. I am hearing possibilities that it could be a cross company fighting game along the lines of Marvel vs. Capcom or Tatsunoko vs. Capcom. Beneath I will explain why.

As you can see in the pictures above, the teaser internet site has previously been updated with these chromosome like structures for each and every of the different businesses. Now these could be something but site Joystiq has pointed out that the chromosomes appear suspiciously like characters from each businesses roster. For instance, on the Namco side, the orange, grey, and blue a single resembles Kite from .Hack, on the Sega side, the dark 1 could be Beyonetta, and on the Capcom side the red a single might be Zero from Mega Man X.

All of these characters could come together in any quantity of approaches but to me, it would make the most sense if it had been a fighting game. Once more although, the teaser site is so at odds with this that we will have to wait for the timer to run out at 12:01 am on April 12 to understand for sure what the game is.

What do you readers consider the game will be? A fighting game? Horror game? Gardening sim? Inform us below in the comments!

Nintendo’s old rivals feeling the pinch as games are cancelled and layoffs expected.

Sega have been around a fair old while, and the videogame scene would be a really various location with no them.

The company that gave the globe Sonic The Hedgehog has recently been undergoing some economic difficulties, even so, according to the likes of Joystiq. This has however led to the cancellation of numerous titles, and will result in job losses for employees in Sega’s European and American studios.

Yeah Sonic, we know it sucks…

Cryptically enough, it is not actually been specified which titles have been cancelled, so at least we cannot miss what we never ever knew about. Nonetheless, with the 3DS performing so well for itself of late there’s each cause to suspect that some hitherto-unannounced 3DS games might’ve been axed.

It’s not all bad news, even though. The core franchises, Sega’s bread and butter if you will, stay unharmed. Total War and Football Manager will not see the chop, and neither will Sega’s Aliens games.

And of course, Sonic titles stay profitable and consequently on schedule.

The numbers make for some quite grisly reading, with reports suggesting that Sega’s expected income are to drop from 38 billion yen to 20 billion yen. That’s purportedly equivalent to a $ 462 million to $ 243 million discrepancy.

Ouch!

The idea is that hopefully Sega can be ‘streamlined’ to ‘create a smaller company positioned for sustained profitability’. Because without having profitability Sega can’t make games, it seems a reluctant but required selection to make.

Nonetheless, Sega’s plans to concentrate on its most significant, most profitable franchises ought to see sales pick up. Having stated that, Sega are also identified as an experimental organization at times with their titles will this restructure and concentrate on the huge hitters come at the expense of their niche, playful goods?

Either way, it’s drastic action from Sega indeed. Hopefully this won’t have a big impact on their 3DS contributions in the months to come.

Welcome to the <strike>initial</strike> second Piki Geek TiG! What’s that, you ask? The TiG, or Nowadays in Gaming, is a rundown of all the news that we didn’t cover.

Now, wait a second – why aren’t we directly covering these stories?

The answer is easy: we’re embracing our name! Piki Geek was never ever supposed to be a one particular-cease shop for gaming news. Rather, it was supposed to be a hub for outstanding feature, preview, and evaluation content with the day’s most crucial news stories thrown in.

At the same time, nevertheless, we recognize that it sucks to have to dig by means of a billion-thousand sites to locate good gaming news – so we’re undertaking that for you. At the end of each and every day on Piki Geek, we’ll be throwing out a TiG to link to our other gaming friends so you could catch every little thing we didn’t think was necessarily newsworthy.

Sounds great? Awesome. Now hit the break and be amazed.

The Globe of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria beta began this afternoon. Whilst it caught most people by surprise, MMO-champion’s Boubouille predicted it was coming yesterday.

Kotaku has a bit up where they talk about Nvidia’s new killer card, the GTX680. The video “leaked” earlier right now, and it functions Nvidia’s VP of corporate advertising and marketing going on about how amazing it is. Apparently it can power a tiny city, or something.

Warp, an action game based ‘round stealth and, uh, action, is now obtainable on Steam. We reviewed it (and liked it).

There’s a new video out on Capcom’s official page for Dragon’s Dogma. The video focuses on “variety” – primarily how diverse all the classes really feel, and how all of their abilities are fancy.

Here’s something that is a tad strange: Final Fantasy XIII-2 will be obtaining Mass Impact costume DLC in Japan.

Joystiq is reporting that Assassin’s Creed 3’s multiplayer will be getting designed by Ubisoft Annecy, the studio behind the modes in the last two AC games. As far as what that multiplayer truly is… no one particular has a clue!

The developer behind the hit mobile app DrawSomething, OMGPOP, has been purchased by Zynga. Whilst it isn’t revealing any numbers, rumors have pegged the deal at about $ 200 million. Yep.

Want to play Virtua Tennis Challenge? Take a trip to the Sony Ericsson Open.

Did you miss out on SWTOR’s launch? Are you nevertheless interested in playing? BioWare is providing cost-free trials to newcomers who have but to step foot into the Star Wars universe.

Civilization V’s lead designer Ed Beach told Joystiq that the upcoming Gods &amp Kings expansion is being created around 3 of the fans’ largest problems with the game. Firstly, the AI has been improved to not hold grudges for hundreds of years (which is not a hyperbole when it comes to Civilization), thus giving one particular less cause for the AI to invade two millenia after your Warrior killed its Scout with stone clubs inside a cave.

Religion, diplomacy and espionage also make a return to the game to address complaints of gameplay that was as well streamlined and toned down. Every of the three added an added layer in relations among civilizations in Civilization IV so it’s genuinely a mystery why they were removed in the 1st location. Espionage is handled differently this time, only utilizing 1 screen and with no actual units on the field.

Lastly, the tech tree for combat technologies is far more unified with much less dead ends so you will not be stuck with crossbowmen in your machine gun infantry line any longer. An additional adjust is a melee functionality to naval units to permit for naval invasions of coastal cities for the first time.

Outside of these major alterations, unit stacking has undergone a bit of a adjust. There’s no detail as to what but only that there is “more flexibility” now. Maybe this means that smaller sized infantry units can stack a couple of at a time on a tile now instead of taking up the identical quantity of space as a battalion of tanks.

And, of course, the expansion comes with 27 new units, 13 new buildings and nine new Wonders. No mention of the previously confirmed nine civilizations in the Joystiq write-up, even though. Let’s hope they just forgot and didn’t remove them.

The pack is expected to release in late spring.

Okay, so we’re not seeing a simultaneous global launch for the next set of Pokémon games, but Nintendo’s acquiring a bit closer. According to Joystiq and Nintendo Life, it’s been announced that Pokemon Black and White two will be released in all the nations that aren’t Japan this fall. If you’ll remember, that is only a couple months apart from it is June-slated release in the land of the rising sun. Possibly they’ll get it down at some point.

Also, thanks to both the press releases linked above and our fantastic readers, we’ve learned that Nintendo is producing a point to remind everybody they can play the games in 2D on their 3DS systems. Although the reminder is all well and very good, wouldn’t a perk or two for owners of the 3DS be a small far better? integration with the 3D Pokédex app, maybe?

IGF Aspect 2012: At A Distance (Rock, Paper, Shotgun)
“Terry ‘VVVVVV’ Cavanagh’s ultra-minimalist, abstract first-person co-op puzzler At A Distance is nominated for the Nuovo award at this year’s Independent Games Festival. As component of our seemingly infinite series in which we chat to (practically) all the finalists, Terry talks about the idea behind the game, what he’d like to see win at the IGF this year, his disappointment that the Pirate Kart didn’t get a nod, and his answer to the most crucial question of all.”

Gambitious game-centric crowdfunding site launching March 2012 (IndiePub)
“Netherlands-based Symbid today (February 14, 2012) announced that it is launching Gambitious, a new “equity-based crowdfunding platforms for the games industry.””

Offspring Fling (PixelProspector)
“Offspring Fling is a promising upcoming puzzle platformer where you throw little creatures around so they bounce around and activate buttons etc.”

Indie studio Practically Human is much more human than most (Joystiq)
“Yesterday morning, Juho Salila went to perform as usual, expecting to streamline the graphics and build a few monsters for Legend of Grimrock, Nearly Human’s imminent dungeon crawler.”

The Last and Final Word: Pippin Barr (Quote Unquote)
“After teaching videogame-style-associated subjects for a year at the IT University of Copenhagen, Pippin Barr felt a duty to truly discover the ropes himself and make some games. And it hasn’t taken him long to discover some good results with releases such as The Artist Is Present and Let’s Play: Ancient Greek Punishment (both of which can be found here). Both managed to get a bunch of positive mainstream coverage.”

Hot Shot: 1000 Amps (Hookshot inc.)
“1000 Amps is a really lovely piece of game design. Brandon Brizzi’s newest is a tart and compact puzzle platformer that feels like, oh, let’s say Metroid blended into Chip’s Challenge with just the tiniest slice of Minesweeper on top.”

analogue: a hate story (auntie pixelante)
“A woman’s apocalypse is not the terror of technological regression, but of social regression: not a strange and unknown future but the imposition of an all-too-familiar past.”

Interview: Dan Pinchbeck &amp Rob Briscoe on Dear Esther (IndieGames.com)
“Originally released as a Half-Life two mod, Dear Esther has been remade with completely overhauled graphics, audio, and other design tweaks, fitting of a commercial release. It’s a narrative centric initial individual exploration game, and it’s exceptionally quite. I played it to completion the other day, and wasn’t certain if I totally understood it, so I caught up with developers Dan Pinchbeck &amp Rob Briscoe to locate out much more.”

With the very first Black Ops breaking all kinds of sales records (later broken by MW3), it’s no surprise that but yet another Black Ops is probably in development. But if seeking at Activision’s track history at repeatedly reiterating a sales hit wasn’t enough, new rumors also point to a 2012 release of BO2.

Gameblog.fr reports that Amazon France published a page on their site about the existence of Black Ops 2, which was then swiftly removed. Right after reporting about the post, Amazon France ordered the site to take down the story. A tiny later, Joystiq also noticed Call of Duty: Black Ops on a developer’s LinkedIn, further solidifying rumors that kicked off following Activision registered the domain blackops2.com a few weeks ago.

If the past is something to go by, expect CoD: BO to release this November – to record sales.
