Luxor Evolved
Available for iOS (iPad, iPhone, iPod touch)
Game Developer and Publisher: MumboJumbo
Release Date: May possibly 1, 2012
Luxor Evolved assessment

The lush, practically photo-actual graphics of Luxor’s previous iOS incarnation Luxor two HD set a high standard for the match-three marble shooter. Could it get much better? MumboJumbo takes gamers on an all-new surprising visual method in Luxor Evolved. Just by the game’s name and its graphical style, Luxor Evolved is clearly influenced by Geometry Wars Evolved. Dig deeper into Luxor Evolved’s secret levels and you will locate there are in reality many other video game tributes to some of gaming’s greatest. Experiencing the secret levels unlocks the greatest rewards that Luxor Evolved delivers. The Luxor game series might have been a niche in the casual game market place, but this release calls out to the hardcore and long-time classic gamers.

Luxor Evolved does have the colorful vector graphics from the Geometry Wars game series. And at its heart, the gameplay mechanics of Luxor Evolved are nonetheless really considerably the same from preceding Luxor releases. So I will spare the repetition. There are a lots of power ups and bonuses to catch, in fruity retro gaming style. The three diverse Super Power-ups are the most rewarding and damaging, which transform your ship into a uber-destructive force. The Super Energy-ups will also light up your screen with psychedelic colors.

One issue that felt a tiny off in Luxor Evolved is the gameplay speed. There is a slow-motion impact, but at times I couldn’t tell if it was because of the game’s efficiency. For a vector game, it definitely should feel a bit speedier or a bit snappier like earlier Luxor games (or Geometry Wars). The other minor annoyance may possibly be the boss battles. Some of the boss battles may possibly be frustrating, but there is an option to skip the boss battle should it actually aggravate you. As soon as you get a couple encounters with the bosses, items might get smoother.

I will not spoil which retro games make a surprise look in Luxor Evolved (unless you can guess a single of them from the screenshot above), but believe early and late eighties arcade games and you get the thought. I had a blast playing through the game just to see the special neon representations of the video game classics. I was doubtful how MumboJumbo could possibly come up with yet another exclusive release of Luxor, but they did it in a completely wonderful and retro fabulous gaming way. Gamers owe it to themselves to encounter a super fun visit down video game’s godly glyphs in Luxor Evolved. Very suggested!
Game Rating:

4.5 out of 5 stars

###

Thanks to MumboJumbo for creating this evaluation possible!

The weekend is practically here and hopefully you have a ton of mobile games prepared to support you unwind. One of our favorite games to support you do that is Gameloft’s Asphalt series. There’s one thing about the mixture of nitrous and hairpin turns that truly tends to make us… mellow.

Good news for fans of the series: it looks like Asphalt is about to start its seventh lap with the announcement of Asphalt 7: Heat. Whilst not considerably is identified about the game, we do have a teaser image and we know it will be accessible for both iOS and Android devices.

An additional Gameloft game that’s producing some news is the game tie-in to Males in Black 3, scheduled for release on Could 17. An official trailer is now obtainable and shows the game in action. While the video shows just rapid snippets of action, we can tell they’re going with an isometric point of view on the action with lots of colorful art and unique characters.

Let’s talk about some games that are already out now. The highly-addictive Temple Run just received a new update allowing for even more customizable wallpapers to buy utilizing in-game currency, motivating the most hardcore of us to make a run for it a couple of more times for completion’s sake.

Mini Motor Racing, a excellent top-down racer in the vein of the NES classic RC Pro-Am, also received an update this week, and we’re not just speaking about some wallpaper. The game now has on the web multiplayer for you and up to four pals (or strangers) to compete via Game Center.

Mini Motor Racing also adds many new vehicles, numerous “remastered” tracks, and a couple graphical enhancements for all iOS devices. If you haven’t picked it up but, you can attempt a trial version by clicking the following iPhone and iPad links.

Lastly, we’ve been following Kickstarter projects like absolutely everyone else, and one that is gotten our consideration is Republique. The game, published by start off-up Camoflaj, wants to bring AAA graphics and a hardcore sensibility to an iOS title, and an early look at the title shows they know specifically what they’re undertaking. This is specifically true when you consider the lead publisher decided to exit production of Halo four as its Creative Director to make this move onto mobile.

Anyway, the guys are obtaining close to their stated aim of $ 500,000 in funding, and they’re close to the $ 300K mark with days to go. Verify out their page and note that, if funding is greater than expected, an Android version could soon be in the functions!

The developer behind Cobalt Runner for the PSP – your portable Mirror’s Edge repair – is now remaking the game for the PS Vita with lots of level creation and sharing ambition.

Cobalt Runner was an anticipated Quake mod amongst the PSP community for its capturing of freerunning on the portable device. Not much came of it in the end though and men and women were disappointed that it promised so a lot but came to nothing at all. Even so, the developer has all of a sudden appeared yet again and has decided to perform on the game for the PS Vita.

A couple of years have passed so their plans for the game have changed a tiny, as you can read below:

“The new premise is that of a social game, much more or much less. You generate levels by placing objects ala Trackmania or Modnation Racers, and then can race against folks on the web for international high scores or just chill out and play game modes as the map cycle rotates by means of user generated maps.”

If this does manage to make it out of the developer’s hands and into players then this should be a well-liked game, presuming every thing comes together. At the moment the improvement method is still quite early as the game is becoming built from scratch in the PS Vita SDK. After just a few days, the developer has released a bit of gameplay which has unfortunately been recorded with an iPhone, but you can nonetheless make it out.

Hopefully some far better top quality media assets will be on the way soon. For now, you can have a look at what the game looked like as intended for the PSP back in 2009 appropriate right here – it looks to be pretty a lot the exact same sort of thing.

Much more information on Cobalt Runner can be identified on its official IndieDB page.

We’ve kept a close eye on Fishlab’s highly regarded Galaxy on Fire 2 HD for iPad, but didn’t want to spend $ 9.99 to purchase it. Thankfully, the game’s currently on sale for $ 4.99, and the offer is valid until this Sunday, April 29. We have a long plane trip coming up, and this appears to be the perfect title to have, since this space exploration game comes with more than 20 star systems to explore, over 100 3D space stations, 10-plus hours of gameplay, and some of the best graphics on Apple’s tablet. If you’re even remotely interested, now’s the time. [Download]

Turns out, Fishlabs is but one company that slashed prices, with EA Mobile following suit. Today, you can grab the iPad version of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12 for $ 1.99. On top of that, Madden NFL 12 for iPad is $ 4.99, NBA Jam for iPhone is $ 0.99, and Real Racing 2 iPhone is $ 1.99. [Tiger Woods/Madden/NBA Jam/Real Racing 2]

Meanwhile, Hutch Games’ iOS speedster, Smash Cops, is free. In this beautiful action game, you take on the role of a police officer and must track down criminals across a detailed 3D world, ramming into lowlifes and completing objectives. Not a bad way to pass the time, especially at the low cost of zero dollars. [Download]

Another day, another proposed project via Kickstarter. This one comes from Richard Garfield, creator of the popular card-battle game, Magic: The Gathering. He needs $ 40,000 to create a new location-based iOS title called Map Monsters, which casts players as members of an elite monster containment unit charged with capturing a variety of creatures while at the same time recovering precious heirlooms. He hopes to transform Earth into a game board while doing location gaming justice. If that sounds intriguing, donate here.

Moving to Android, it seems smart phone users will have to wait for Max Payne a bit longer. Originally slated to arrive this week, Rockstar Games announced that its port of the bullet-firing classic is delayed by a week, give or take. The news kicked off rumors of the game being optimized for Xperia Play, but there’s no official confirmation.

There’s an unwritten rule that men and women wearing hockey masks are up to no excellent, like those who play hockey. Jason Voorhees terrorized teens in the Friday the 13th motion pictures, Rick went bonkers in Namco Bandai’s Splatterhouse series, and now Chillingo has a masked man all its own in the publisher’s newest iPhone and iPad release, Lock ‘n’ Load. It is a third-person adventure where you shoot very first, then shoot some much more.

As the story goes, some diabolical little girl is up to no good, spawning monsters throughout a Halloween-style world. The protagonist, Mr. Johnson, takes matters into his own hands by donning a hockey mask and running out of his house to not only take her down, but also the army of minions. Just before long, he runs into a wheelchair-riding old lady/arms dealer, who hooks the brute up with a machine gun and sends him into battle. He then lays waste to bird-firing scarecrows, goons with machetes, and 30 additional enemy sorts although at the same time looking for hidden presents, completing bonus objectives, and grabbing money to later upgrade to new weapons and outfits.

What’s Hot

This is mindless twin-stick shooting entertaining for a buck. We adore rushing into a pumpkin patch or dungeon with shotgun in hand, watching as bodies hit the floor. Not only that, but there’s a surprising quantity of humor throughout Lock ‘n’ Load that gives it character. From Mr. Johnson’s one-liners–some of which had been pulled from the film Predator–to the aforementioned wheelchair lady. Dialogue has a tendency to repeat, but not enough to spoil the action, which remains consistently intense all through.

The graphics appear clean and feature visually stimulating specifics that bring this virtual globe to life, no matter whether it is spider webs underneath stairs or jack-o’-lanterns piled subsequent to the entrance of an old graveyard. Unintentional or no, Gamelab did an outstanding job capturing the Halloween spirit.

What’s Not

Fairly frankly, the evil girl gets on our nerves. She talks too considerably, and the actress who voiced her didn’t put almost sufficient passion into the function. Sad to say, but we desperately wanted every single cutscene to end so we could get back to the killing.

Lastly, the twin sticks do not work almost as nicely when it comes to using the shotgun. We wasted numerous rounds trying to line up targets, and typically took harm simply because we accidentally shifted our aim the slightest degree to the left or correct.

The Verdict: Let These Bullets Fly

Lock ‘n’ Load isn’t the most original shooter on the App Shop, but it by no means tries to be. You purchase this game because you want to relieve pressure and just want to shoot the heck out of some evil clowns before finding on with the day. To that finish, it is $ .99 nicely spent.

Download Lock ‘n’ Load

We’ve yet to play the critically-acclaimed Super Lemonade Factory, and after seeing the newest update, this visually-stimulating title has just turn into a priority. Accessible now, the totally free download brings iCade support along with the potential to edit the on-screen button layout. They’re subtle changes that ought to make this intriguing game even more appealing, if that’s even feasible. Right after all, it is a retro-styled platform adventure that takes location post Globe War II, as you struggle to run the factory even though dealing with labor relations. Calling it special would be a enormous understatement. Download Super Lemonade Factory

Meanwhile, Gameloft’s Shark Dash could be the next huge factor. The physics-based title began taking nibbles of the App Store games section, then went in for the kill, swiftly rising up the charts to sit comfortably within the best five paid iPhone and iPad titles. It’s number nine on the Android Marketplace. Download for iOS/Android

In other news, the pleasant Bean’s Quest has officially created the jump from iOS to Android. Developer Kumobius did a amazing job bringing its platform game to iPhone and iPad, with user-friendly touch controls, a cute jumping bean hero, and old school graphics that produced it a preferred amongst the App Shop faithful. We look forward to hearing what the Android community thinks of it. Download Bean’s Quest

Capybara’s Superbrothers: Sword &amp Sworcery EP is all the rage in Canada. The hit iOS title walked away with 5 Canadian Videogame Awards (CVA) this past weekend for the following categories: Greatest Game On The Go, Best Downloadable, Very best Indie, Greatest Original Music, and the Innovation Award. Well-deserved, we say, and you ought to absolutely play the game to see what all the fuss is about. Download Superbrothers: Sword &amp Sworcery EP

With every single passing day, there’s a new mobile game on the crowd-funding scene. This time, it is M3CH, an Unreal 3-powered third-individual shooter that takes location in a futuristic setting. Developer Tiny Impact Games hopes to bring a console-like encounter to iOS, as players upgrade mechanized robots employing an arsenal of weapons and lay waste to enemies across impressive-searching environments. The team launched its campaign by way of web site indiegogo and requirements $ 25,000. Check it out right here.

Samsung could have just taken a shot at Apple iPhone fans. A new teaser for its upcoming Galaxy S III vaguely hints at the device’s functions, then suggests interested customers will stand out from every person else. Who is everybody else? The video cuts to a nonetheless image of sheep, perhaps implying that Apple’s most diehard supporters blindly buy the company’s merchandise regardless of top quality. As for the Galaxy S III, we count on to discover much more during the official May possibly three unveiling, but for now, rumors point to a 12-megapixel camera and a 1.4GHz quad-core processor. We’ll see if it is enough to pry iPhones from people’s hands.

Some domesticated felines give up chasing mice and birds, largely because a human’s constantly there with a plate of food. That is almost certainly what occurred to Burger Cat, the adorable character in Ravenous Games’ newest iOS title of the identical name. Turns out, the furry guy would rather scarf down cheeseburgers than tap into his killer instinct, which is fine by us, given that it means much less mess to clean. At least that is what we believed till a grilling accident scattered Burger Cat’s hamburgers across 60 levels, forcing us to help him retrieve them all.

That mentioned, do not go into this game expecting a equivalent experience to Ravenous Games’ iPhone and iPad League of Evil titles. You don’t control Burger Cat per se. Instead, the objective is to create a safe path to the cheeseburger utilizing a handful of tools, be it a pickaxe to chop via rock, or trampolines that propel the kitty to safety. Once you make the correct (or incorrect) moves, you set Burger Cat in motion and watch him slowly move towards the tasty treat or plummet into oblivion. Whichever comes initial.

What’s Hot

This is the type of experience tailor-created for touch screens, where rather of wrestling with virtual analog sticks, you simply tap to location objects and execute actions. What’s far more, there’s a nice quantity of method to this title, as you study each and every board envisioning what may possibly or might not come about as soon as you send Burger Cat on his way. The challenge comes from utilizing the restricted number of resources, be it two trampolines, five platforms, or a single mouse decoy the latter causes Burger Cat to adjust direction. You don’t even require to use them all to resolve a puzzle.

On top rated of that, the game has a entertaining cartoon-like presentation. Burger Cat’s a riot, especially during the cut scenes, and we adore the speech bubbles that seem more than his head, particularly the one particular that reads “So Hungry! Time to make with the Noms!” Finally, the music is each light-hearted and catchy. Great stuff.

What’s Not

We could see a handful of men and women complaining about the style of game, which is a huge departure from League of Evil, but that’s more of a personal preference than style flaw. This is Ravenous doing something various, and we totally embrace the concept. That aside, the touch controls still want tweaking. At times, we’ll need to have two taps to place an object. Absolutely nothing an update can’t repair.

Verdict:

Burger Cat’s a head-scratching great time, with a likeable hero, appealing graphics, and strategic gameplay. With no question a cool game for both youngsters and adults. Now go ahead and gather those cheeseburgers.

Download Burger Cat

’100 GREATEST HITS’ &amp ’100 GREATEST HITS FREE’ was announced today to coincide with 30th anniversary of the launch of Sinclair ZX Spectrum.

Taking games from 23rd April, 1982 – 23rd April, 2012, 30 years of gaming!

From the 20th-27th April, all 100 Games will be accessible for the amazing value of £5.99 (iPhone/Touch) £8.99 (iPad).

Commenting upon the launch plans, Elite’s MD Steve Wilcox mentioned, “The Apps supply the opportunity to create a collection, of the most well-liked SINCLAIR ZX SPECTRUM games from the 80s and 90s, in two great approaches:

1. Download ‘100 Greatest Hits’ to obtain Bruce Lee and to get 100 more classic SINCLAIR ZX SPECTRUM games for no further fee!

Consists of:
- Manic Miner
- Jet Set Willy
- Chuckie Egg
- and significantly, much more.

No need to have to buy extra games:
- Bruce Lee and 25 separate packs, every single of 4 games, included for no further fee!

2. Alternatively, download ‘100 Greatest Hits Free’, to get Bruce Lee for free of charge and to get 100 more classic SINCLAIR ZX SPECTRUM games for a modest further fee.

Purchase additional games in 2 distinctive ways:
- 25 separate packs, every of four games, accessible for download at £1.49/Euro$ 1.59/US$ 1.99
- all 100 games for a massively discounted price tag (fundamentally the cost of a cinema ticket).”
