Ghost of Sparta, Warhawk demos for PS Plus subscribers
That per year PlayStation Plus subscription is about to start paying off; an early access demo of Kratos’ latest killing spree, the Ready at Dawn-developed God of War: Ghost of Sparta, will next week be made available to Plus subscribers and Plus subscribers alone.
No word on what to specifically expect but blood and guts all over the floor is our bet.
Next week will also see the release of a full game trial for Warhawk, just in case there’s someone out there is interested in acquiring a 3-year-old multiplayer-only shooter. You never know.
Madden 11 Monumental Comeback in OTP
Last night I got together with Fred and CoreySA to run through a couple games of Online Team Play in Madden 11. The memorable game of the evening included a comeback from down 28-6 late in the 3rd quarter. Though we felt like we were playing decently on both sides of the ball the opposition kept converting third downs. It took us a while but eventually we decided to dial up the pressure and what resulted was a 36-11 swing which included three INT-TDs (all by defensive lineman) and a 42-39 victory.
In addition to the initial OTP impressions in the online play write-up here are a few more observations on the mode:
- It is a bit difficult to get a full game going. It seems that people trickle into the room slowly. By the time a sixth has come in someone has left and the cycle continues. Don’t know if this is because few people are playing the mode or if something is wrong with matchmaking/joining.
- I just don’t see many people achieving the boosts naturally they’ll probably end up needing to be paid for if desired. Still don’t think I’ve gone up against anyone who’s been boosted, though our opponents probably think we did something crazy to turn that game around in such dramatic fashion.
- As mentioned previously the RB is covered up by the coordinator text box which can make the assignment difficult to discern. The position is also hampered by being initially controlled by the CPU on routes. In many cases we found our desire to stay in and make a block was not possible due to this. It would start the player moving and took the control completely out of the user’s hands and a critical block would be missed.
- It’s a shame there are no lifetime records or stats. Despite the feeling of accomplishment in this game especially there was still essentially nothing on the line. So the potential to have people disrupt games or just quit could be an issue come across.

No Early Draft Combine for NBA 2K11
After some speculation the news has officially come down that there will be no Draft Combine released for NBA 2K11. An extension of My Player mode which provided character creation, drills, and scrimmages for the start of the career mode came out over a month in advance of the release of NBA 2K10 as a download on XBL and PSN and sold for $5. In many ways it was essentially a quasi pay-for demo with it being the first opportunity to try out 2K10 arriving even well before gameplay videos.
The NBA 2K10 Draft Combine sold well for one week but then fell off a cliff due to a limited shelf life but it is impossible to know whether the development that went into it paid off through either purchases or leaps to buying the full game because of it. It was also largely responsible for the demo not coming out any earlier (it hit only days before release of the game). The Draft Combine will now just fold into the full game and be the start of My Player.
Hopefully this means that NBA 2K11 will push out the demo farther in advance so as to collect community feedback. From the sounds of it the demo will also be a little more extensive than just the normal short quarters game. It would seem likely that there will be some form of “The Jordan Challenge” provided, maybe one of the 10 scenarios or an exclusive one for the demo which would surely generate increased interest.

Madden 11 Demo Now Available
The demo for Madden 11 is now available for the Xbox 360 and will be arriving for the PS3 this afternoon. The demo is made up of a full game with five minute quarters featuring the Colts @ Jets. It provides the ability to build a GamePlan off the two team’s playbooks which in doing so will unlock the corresponding achievement/trophy once the full version of Madden 11 is played. It also has selectable difficulty level and gameplay sliders that can be tweaked.
As early as this evening I’ll get up some impressions, how it compares to what was played at E3, and some videos. Feel free to leave your thoughts on the demo in the comments!

Co-op, versus modes coming XBLA’s Plants vs. Zombies
PopCap Games is preparing to announcement something big in San Francisco in a few weeks, but today the news concerns the upcoming Xbox Live Arcade version of the hugely popular Plants vs. Zombies.
The sneaky folks at Xbox360Achievements got their hands on the full Achievement list for the game and among the mundane and predictable are Chieves for co-op and versus.
To unlock “ZFF’s 4 Evr” players will need to “Bowl a winner with a friend in Co-Op Wall-Nut Bowling,” while ”Versus vs Versus” unlocks when players “Go on a 5 game winning streak in VS. mode.”
There you have it, an already great game just got even better. Hoorah!
