Capcom Rethinking On-Disc DLC
![]()
Chris Svensson, of “feed us your hackers” fame, has returned to do a bit a lot more community management – in regards to DLC this time. Following the recent unfavorable response to Dragon’s Dogma DLC getting on the disc, along with the whole Street Fighter x Tekken disaster, Svensson has stated that Capcom is now re-evaluating their DLC distribution methodology but not ahead of revealing that we must be expecting the exact same from upcoming Capcom games.
We would like to assure you that we have been listening to your comments and as such have begun the approach of re-evaluating how such additional game content material is delivered in the future. As this procedure has only just commenced in the past month or so, there will be some titles, where development began some time ago and that are scheduled for release in the coming months, for which we are unable to make changes to the way some of their post release content material is delivered.
Some of Capcom’s thinking in regards to on-disc DLC was revealed when Svensson mentioned “the selection to consist of some additional (but not all planned further) game content material for the game on disc was made at the starting of the game’s development cycle as at the time.” He goes on to justify the DLC by saying that it will add to the overall playtime and lifespan of the game.
Incomplete Edition

Back in December on www.joelcouture.com, I wrote about the expectations I had of the next massive Capcom fighting game. I stated that I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a sales flop, with Capcom’s consumers having been burned numerous occasions by these ‘Complete Editions’ that they’d been releasing for all of their large-budget games. Although not being right on the mark, Street Fighter X Tekken‘s disappointing sales shows me that I’m not far off. Whilst releasing a new version of the game loaded with DLC a handful of months down the road may appear like an easy way to hook new players, it is performing considerably a lot more to erode the confidence of the men and women who purchased the games to begin with.
With Capcom’s policy of reliably releasing a far better edition of its games a little below a year later, can you blame people for wanting to wait? It’s not the only company to blame either, as recent versions of Batman: Arkham City and Dead Island (I do not think ‘Game of the Year’ Edition could possibly be more of a misnomer for this game) have been announced, promising all DLC and other tiny goodies. Now, these games haven’t even been out a year but, but currently men and women are acquiring much more game-play for less cash. It is most likely generating the handful of people who held off on the game fairly happy, but what about these folks who already have a $ 100 worth of Collector’s Editions sitting at residence? How do you feel they really feel?
Cheated.

I recognize the idea behind these new versions. If you’ve got a completed game and a bunch of new content for it, why not just ship it out to retailers? It’ll most likely draw a bunch of new individuals to the game, because word of mouth has spread the news for ages. If these folks were contemplating getting it utilised for more affordable, then this curtails used sales, because you can get a low-cost and better version just by buying it new. Those individuals who purchased it before may want in on the action, as well. Considering that the value is set so low, maybe a handful of of them will grab it just to see the new content, especially these guys who love fighting games. It’ll make some quick, straightforward income for the company with out a lot of operating needing to be paid for.

There’s been a merry slew of Fire Emblem: Awakening downloadable content considering that the game recently launched in Japan. Fresh characters and maps have been very considerably the order of the day, and even though Nintendo is new to the DLC thing it appears adamant on capitalising on the profitability promised.
As such, each a new EXP-rich map and a familiar face will be heading to the DLC scene in Japan soon, according to Siliconera.

B*tchin’ ‘Arkham City’ DLC Trailer Makes Female Dog Pun About a Woman Dressed as a Cat. Wait, What?
By Jeffrey Matulef
In a stunningly oblivious marketing decision, Warner Brother’s new trailer for their Batman: Arkham City DLC, Harley Quinn’s Revenge, continues to refer to the dastardly dame as a “bitch.” Although an acceptable “PG-13″ swear by most requirements, its overt use in the game was unintentional comical and widely debated in numerous circles. Much more probably than not, the excessive use of the word stemmed from a desire to make the game edgy mixed with a T rating that prevented harsher swears. Ultimately, though, it was merely lazy writing. I imply couldn’t developer Rocksteady Studios have varied their vocabulary a bit far more? I consider mixing it up with “broad” would have worked better, especially as it really is the sort of vague insult criminals would use in the 40s, an era the Batman universe draws so heavily from.
In all fairness, its use in the trailer, “Payback’s a bitch” is a fitting pun, but immediately after all the controversy about its use in the game you’d believe WB would want to ease off a bit. But hey, it really is a lot more Arkham City, so I am not going to bitch about that.

Two Minutes of Beyond Good & Evil 2 Footage Leaked
By Jeffrey Matulef
Beyond Great & Evil two has possibly the most mysterious improvement cycle of any game given that Duke Nukem Forever. A teaser was shown four years ago at Ubidays 2008, but that was its only official announcement. Shortly thereafter in 2009, a piece of concept footage leaked, showing what appeared to be series protagonist Jade getting chased via numerous desert dwellings with a distinctly Middle Eastern influence.
Now, an extra two minuted of concept footage has leaked, courtesy of Unseen 64. Unfortunately, it’s from no later than 2009, when the project final went on hold. The new video details some of the game’s environments, which appear similar to what we saw final time out. I can’t support but wonder if the signs are placeholder art, or if that town really is that obsessed with fish markets. Possibly the former.

Beyond Great & Evil creator Michel Ancel recently confirmed in an interview (translated on NeoGAF) that the sequel is nonetheless in improvement in its “active creation stage,” but “demands much more tech,” suggesting that it will be for subsequent gen platforms. In the meantime, Ancel is operating on Rayman Legends for the Wii U and almost certainly other consoles as properly.
