The most recent Joker-centric DLC pack for DC Universe Online is arriving in June, and with it comes the return of some familiar voices. The iconic Joker voice actor Mark Hamil is set to make his return as the aforementioned villain, and he’s not the only veteran voice actor in tow.

Each Arleen Sorkin and Adam Baldwin have been confirmed for the game, with Sorkin reprising her Batman: Arkham Asylum role as Harley Quinn. Baldwin returns as the voice of Superman, his very first voiceover gig considering that voicing the Man of Steel for DC Universe Online’s initial release.

Entitled “The Last Laugh”, the DLC pack adds a whole host of PvP alternatives to the game, which includes a 16-vs-16 scenario in which both sides try to take over a single another’s headquarters. As per the usual, the pack will be obtainable to Legendary subscribers for no cost, although Premium and Free of charge customers will be in a position to purchase it on each PSN and the game’s official site.

The fine people at Rocksteady have released a new trailer for the Batman: Arkham City DLC, Harley’s Revenge, and outside of her new gothic high school getup, it is hunting pretty good. As we’ve mentioned ahead of, the DLC will come bundled with the Game of the Year Edition and be available as a stand-alone when the GOTY Edition is released on Could 29th.

This looks to be the very first (and most likely, last) story-based DLC, as it takes location numerous weeks following the events of Arkham City with Ms. Quinn feeling rather unhappy more than what occurred to her puddin‘. She sets a trap for ole’ Bats and he falls for it, and it looks to be up to Robin to save him. It tends to make 1 of the handful of instances exactly where you are in a position to play as the Tim Drake-era Robin and it’s definitely a welcome alter to step into the bat-boots of a person else (not counting the challenge-space DLC).

Head past the break to verify out the most recent trailer.

Rockstar’s most current game, Max Payne 3, has received free downloadable content for the game’s multiplayer mode.

Rockstar has announced the Gorilla Warfare Pack for Max Payne three, which is obtainable for free of charge to everyone on the PlayStation Network and Xbox Reside. The Computer version of the game will also obtain this DLC for totally free on its release date.

The three items included in the pack help players customize their multiplayer loadouts. First is the Gorilla Mask (which can be noticed in the image beneath), which provides additional adrenaline for melee kills from behind. The second item is the Lucky Coin, which gives added money when looting bodies. The third and final item is the Booby Trap item, which rigs the player’s corpse to explode when looted by another player.

Rockstar had previously released a list of scheduled DLC for the game that begins in June and ends in the fall. Max Payne three‘s announced DLC list can be seen here.

Immediately after releasing and detailing the 1.1 update for Star Prospector, Cryptstone Games now released a trailer for said added content which includes the Tower Defender which is fundamentally an extra game on prime of the principal game.

Star Prospector is a space-based strategy game, of which there are numerous we know, but this one is based on terrestrial battles entirely. There’s some RPG mixed in with the procedurally generated levels also, in as significantly as that you earn encounter points and can upgrade and obtain new units for battle in your journey to mine and salvage these remote planets you will stumble across.

The 1.1 DLC was released for free and added new functions, bug fixes, enhanced level balancing, graphics changes and GUI improvements, as effectively as that Tower Defender mini game extra. It is tower defense, pure and straightforward. We’ve told you this just before like a month ago but the new trailer is great, we promise. Just watch it:

Star Prospector is offered on Impulse, Desura and GamersGate. Or you can get it from the developers themselves.

If you want to attempt the game out with the attributes of the 1.1 update, worry not you wary spender, for there is a demo which serves that precise objective. You can download it right here at your personal discretion.

A lot more info on Star Prospector is available on the developer’s official website.

Chris Svensson, of “feed us your hackers” fame, has returned to do a bit a lot more community management – in regards to DLC this time. Following the recent unfavorable response to Dragon’s Dogma DLC getting on the disc, along with the whole Street Fighter x Tekken disaster, Svensson has stated that Capcom is now re-evaluating their DLC distribution methodology but not ahead of revealing that we must be expecting the exact same from upcoming Capcom games.

We would like to assure you that we have been listening to your comments and as such have begun the approach of re-evaluating how such additional game content material is delivered in the future. As this procedure has only just commenced in the past month or so, there will be some titles, where development began some time ago and that are scheduled for release in the coming months, for which we are unable to make changes to the way some of their post release content material is delivered.

Some of Capcom’s thinking in regards to on-disc DLC was revealed when Svensson mentioned “the selection to consist of some additional (but not all planned further) game content material for the game on disc was made at the starting of the game’s development cycle as at the time.” He goes on to justify the DLC by saying that it will add to the overall playtime and lifespan of the game.

Regrettably, this all just tends to make it seem that Capcom will just preserve the DLC behind and off the discs and ship it out digitally immediately after release, perhaps waiting a bit longer among release and the launch of the 1st package. Svensson’s statements show a distinct lack of realize what the primary criticism of Capcom’s on-disc DLC is: it’s content created and budgeted for the game but specifically distributed in a way that earns additional profit for no further expense. Content material that would do what Svensson is claiming the DLC would do as portion of the principal game itself, only adding to the value of the base game so they do not have to decrease their expectations from 10 million to 1 million next time.

It is irrelevant what the fees or profit margins of DLC is anymore. With consumer reaction this negative, DLC this quickly right after a game is released devalues your item.

Back in December on www.joelcouture.com, I wrote about the expectations I had of the next massive Capcom fighting game. I stated that I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a sales flop, with Capcom’s consumers having been burned numerous occasions by these ‘Complete Editions’ that they’d been releasing for all of their large-budget games. Although not being right on the mark, Street Fighter X Tekken‘s disappointing sales shows me that I’m not far off. Whilst releasing a new version of the game loaded with DLC a handful of months down the road may appear like an easy way to hook new players, it is performing considerably a lot more to erode the confidence of the men and women who purchased the games to begin with.

With Capcom’s policy of reliably releasing a far better edition of its games a little below a year later, can you blame people for wanting to wait? It’s not the only company to blame either, as recent versions of Batman: Arkham City and Dead Island (I do not think ‘Game of the Year’ Edition could possibly be more of a misnomer for this game) have been announced, promising all DLC and other tiny goodies. Now, these games haven’t even been out a year but, but currently men and women are acquiring much more game-play for less cash. It is most likely generating the handful of people who held off on the game fairly happy, but what about these folks who already have a $ 100 worth of Collector’s Editions sitting at residence? How do you feel they really feel?

Cheated.

I recognize the idea behind these new versions. If you’ve got a completed game and a bunch of new content for it, why not just ship it out to retailers? It’ll most likely draw a bunch of new individuals to the game, because word of mouth has spread the news for ages. If these folks were contemplating getting it utilised for more affordable, then this curtails used sales, because you can get a low-cost and better version just by buying it new. Those individuals who purchased it before may want in on the action, as well. Considering that the value is set so low, maybe a handful of of them will grab it just to see the new content, especially these guys who love fighting games. It’ll make some quick, straightforward income for the company with out a lot of operating needing to be paid for.

I’m confident those factors are all effectively and great for the organization, but when this sort of behavior becomes a pattern, gamers commence to get annoyed. If you are into Capcom fighters, or even Capcom games in general, you know what I’m talking about. Street Fighter IV had two separate new editions come out. Dead Rising 2 was followed by Dead Rising 2: Off the Record. Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 had Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom three nipping at its heels not also long afterwards. When your business is notorious for releasing a far better edition of a game shortly after the initial release, what do you assume that tells your customers?

It tells them to wait. Why on earth would you devote $ 60 on a broken version of some thing when you can just wait a small bit longer to get a much better version for only $ 40? Not only are you telling your customers that they’re wasting their cash on acquiring the initial run of your game, you are really giving them $ 20, just for waiting. Hold-outs are becoming rewarded for not supporting the game to begin with.

I just don’t see how franchises can hope to acquire any traction when they’re actively sabotaging their own releases. New buyers are given a lackluster game with no added content material, and they’re asked to spend far more income for it. These funds are then channelled into producing a greater product for the people who didn’t assistance the game to begin with. The folks who didn’t care sufficient about the franchise to purchase it full value are becoming rewarded, and the men and women who love and assistance it are being punished. Does no one particular at Capcom see the issue with this? Do any of the other developers?

Complete editions are a slap in the face to the individuals who waited in lines at midnight to purchase the game. The most rabid and loyal amongst the fan base of any game are penalized, time and once again, for their assistance. This isn’t one thing that goes unnoticed, either. Those die-tough fans will at some point comprehend they’re screwing themselves by getting the game proper out of the gate, and maybe a handful of of them will hold off on the next game. Perhaps they aren’t in as big of a hurry to choose up the subsequent game, because nothing but excellent things will take place to them if they hold out. I do wonder if Street Fighter X Tekken‘s lost sales are a result of this attitude coming to bear.

This is not one thing a couple of stupid pre-order bonuses are going to fix, either. I think that any game that is even thinking about a total edition down the road demands to put a code in the initial release of their game, one that provides permanent free of charge DLC to the owner of the game. It does not have to be each tiny costume and palette swap, but it should give out each character, level, and item you ever intend to make for the game. These individuals, out of any individual else, deserve to be rewarded.

An individual who buys your game within the very first week is a supporter, somebody who actively cares if your game does properly. They’re the only reason why you are in the enterprise of generating games at all, because they’re the ones who write your paycheck. With no the individuals purchasing games on day 1, there would be no gaming industry. These are the males and girls who make it so these games take place, and their continued belief in your franchises implies they’ll preserve going. With out these initial customers, there is no DLC, no future planned content, absolutely nothing. They make every little thing happen by taking a likelihood with their wallets, and it is about time that they were rewarded for it.

It is an pricey strategy, I won’t argue that. Providing new content for people post-release is going to cost a lot of funds, but it is still content material that was going to be produced anyway. Not every game is going to be purchased in the course of that initial release period, so there’s funds to be produced promoting DLC to those guys. Also, it will give you some thing you can make some income on from utilized game sales, so you’ll at least be gaining some cash from every copy of the game out there. You guys lose a little bit in DLC sales to the starting consumers, but you make up a entire lot more when folks scramble to get your next game on release day, knowing they’ll be getting the most value for the game at that time.

If total editions are going to hold coming out, developers like Capcom are going to have to take a tough appear at the message they’re sending the consumers. Do you want your most beneficial customers to really feel like they’re continually being cheated for buying the games on release day, or do you want them to be excited for it? Do you truly want your most important buyers feeling like they’re creating a negative decision when they get your game?

If creating individuals regret buying your games is your tactic, how extended do you count on to keep about?
