The potential to take down Job Masters and unlock their vocations has been revealed prior to, but now we get to see it in action!
We lately discussed that much more classes can be located throughout your play of Bravely Default: Flying Fairy. By taking down ‘Job Masters’, you can unlock their capabilities to assign to your own celebration.
This compelling method signifies that certain enemies can unlock new roles for your squad when taken down. While this is grand stuff indeed, it’s only recently that imagery has begun to emerge for this gameplay mechanic. Luckily, Siliconera have been on hand to translate the screenshots.

The Nintendo 3DS has had a rough first year on the market. Forget about the extreme price drop and low market penetration, and pause for a moment to reflect on the death of good original software on the handheld. Nintendo’s portable has received a couple of great N64 ports, but that’s simply not going to cut it in the face of today’s enormous array of portable options. Thankfully, Super Mario 3D Land has finally arrived and Mario’s latest platformer will put a smile on any gamer’s face.
Younger gamers won’t get the overabundance of references, but Mario 3D Land pulls liberally from fan-favorite NES release, Super Mario Bros. 3. Anyone who has paid even the slightest attention to the game up to this point is already well aware of the return of the Tanooki Suit. Yes, Mario can once again grab Super Leaf power-ups that outfit him with a raccoon suit that extends his platforming capabilities.
Back in Bros. 3, the plumber gained the ability to outright fly and turn into an impenetrable stone version of himself when he collected a Super Leaf – not so this time around. Instead, Mario merely gains the ability to glide through the air after a jump or fall. That might sound like a trivial upgrade, but it’s actually a real game-changer in practice.

Again, Super Mario 3D Land has more in common with Mario’s third numbered adventure than it does modern releases such as Super Mario Galaxy, but EAD Tokyo also sprinkled on a coating of what it learned from developing those Wii platformers. Nintendo came to the realization that the “go anywhere, do anything” Mario games that have been so prevalent since the N64 era have had a polarizing affect on gamers. While many, such as yours truly, absolutely adore them, plenty of others don’t much care for them and yearn for the simpler days of running from one point of a linear level to another.

PETA Claims Tanooki Outrage was a Joke

With the release of Super Mario 3D Land less than a week behind us, the game has generated some interesting buzz. Luckily, most of the buzz has been about 3D Land‘s exceptional level design and gameplay. On the other hand, PETA also attacked the game for “promoting fur”. This onslaught was brought on by the return of the magical tanooki suit, originally introduced in 1988′s Super Mario Bros 3. One would think PETA would have brought it up some time in the last 20 years…
The animal rights activists went so far as to create a website around their claim with a game called “Super Tanooki 2D Skin”. Nintendo responded immediately stating that Mario’s power-ups and suits “make no statement beyond the games themselves.” Today, PETA’s media coordinator released this little gem to the public:
Mario fans: Relax! PETA’s game was meant to be tongue-in-cheek, a fun way to call attention to a serious issue, that raccoon dogs are skinned alive for their fur. We wish real-life tanukis could fly or swat enemies away with their tails and escape from those who profit from their skins. You can help them by never buying real fur.
PETA Speaks Out Against Mario’s Raccoon Suits

That charming special-interest group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is at it again, lampooning another videogame to bring attention to its message. This time, the group turns its ire to Mario and his penchant for wearing suits that look like the fur of a certain type of raccoon.
Whether you agree or disagree, you have to admire how well-done the parodies are. Previous installments include “Cooking Mama Kills Animals” and “Super Tofu Boy.”
That said, I doubt there’s much of a causal link between Mario wearing a magical animal suit and young gamers being encouraged to buy clothes made of magical fur. Who says those things came off a real tanuki, anyway? They came out of a yellow brick and they can fly. Now, if some kid were to decide to skin a raccoon and jump off the roof of his house with it, I may reconsider my skepticism in this case.

Mario’s movements and the level designs of 3D Land are highly influenced by Galaxy‘s mind bending physics and control scheme. The wacky enemies and power-ups come straight from SMB3. The combination of these two influences makes the game a mash-up of everything fans love about Mario, and there’s a lot to love.
Power-Ups Galore – What would a Mario title be without power-ups? It would be a lot less fun, I can tell you that. Super Mario 3D Land does a wonderful job of mixing classic power-ups with some new offerings that will keep players on their toes. The main focus of the game is on the super leaf, which can infect the games enemies as well as our hero with striped tanooki tails. As always, standard Mario power-ups such as mushrooms and fire flowers are present, along with a few new additions such as the boomerang flower. Spoiler alert: It gives you boomerang powers. You may have used some of these suits in the past, but it’s a whole new experience in 3D.
Level Up – As mentioned above, the layouts of Super Mario 3D Land‘s levels are very unique. These stages do a wonderful job of introducing players to the basic Mario actions such as triple jumps, back flips, and ground pounds. As players progress through various worlds the levels add quite a bit of difficulty. Anyone who has played a Mario adventure in the past knows that the Mushroom Kingdom can be unpredictable. 3D Land is no different, introducing new baddies, challenges and puzzles throughout. The game really gets going after you traverse the first 8 worlds, but I’ll let you experience that yourself.

Mario adventure titles rarely disappoint, making Super Mario 3D Land a first day purchase for many.
