Rumor: Star Wars: Battlefront III in Development at Spark Unlimited, Coming This Year

It is been over six years because the release of the critically acclaimed Star Wars: Battlefront II, but eager gamers nevertheless haven’t noticed a third game in the series. Luckily, we’ve uncovered new info that points towards the existing developer of the game, and when it will release.
Developer Spark Unlimited were previously rumored to be operating on Battlefront III – but at the time there was practically no evidence to back up the assertion. All men and women had to go on was the reality that the developer’s Twitter wouldn’t deny (or confirm) that it was their project, and the fact that their internet site said “We are in production on an unannounced high-profile, well-known game sequel for Xbox 360, PS3 and Pc release.”
Now, even so, new info seems to back up the original rumor with a lot more evidence. A job listing states (emphasis added):
Spark is searching for a senior combat designer for a 3rd Individual Action/Adventure sequel in a high-profile science fiction franchise at the moment greenlit for full production development for Xbox 360, PS3 and Computer markets.
Of course, the Call of Duty: Finest Hour developer could be operating on a various science fiction franchise – not that there are that several that aren’t currently signed to a developer. But then there’s the LinkedIn profile for John Lawrie, who utilised to be Senior Software program Engineer for Spark Unlimited, which lists beneath his perform for the developer:
Unannounced third person sword fighting game (nicely identified IP, Xbox 360, PS3)
And what is the most popular sci-fi sword? The lightsaber of course. And ahead of you wonder, another developer’s LinkedIn confirms it is a shooter as properly:
I have been working for 3 years in a AAA third individual shooter utilizing Unreal Engine and Kynapse AI middleware.
It is pretty challenging to think of any other high profile sci-fi franchises that have currently been games, are third individual, and involve shooting and swordplay – so this all suggests BFIII. But there have been some suggestions that Spark Unlimited is operating on a Star Wars game that is not a sequel – a thing that appears unlikely when you appear at a current tweet from the developer (emphasis added):
Given that we are operating on a sequel for a well identified sci-fi franchise, all elements need to stay secret.
With all these signs pointing towards Battlefront III, you almost certainly want to know when you can get your hands on the game. According to the existing Senior Engineer at Spark Unlimited’s LinkedIn:
• Presently – New unannounced project! (~2012 release)
This is all nonetheless a rumor, so bear in thoughts that nothing has been confirmed, but would you like to see Battlefield III on present-gen consoles later this year? Share your thoughts in the comments beneath, on our forums, or leave us a video reply on YouTube.
