TopWare And SouthPeak Disagree About Two Worlds II

Ok, so let me see if I have this straight. Two Worlds II was initially targeted for a Spring 2010 launch. However, as the season of flowers, butterflies and fluffy bunnies rolled through our calendars, an official release date emerged: September 14th. But that was not to be as sometime over the summer the game was pushed out a couple of weeks to October 5th. Again, that was also not going to happen as just this last Monday (September 27th) we received an email from SouthPeak stating that the North American launch for Two Worlds II will once again be delayed, now shooting for a January 2011 release.

According to SouthPeak, the push was to make sure the game was “absolutely flawless.” Here’s their official statement:
Two Worlds II is set for a January release in North America. We understand that this is not great news for those of you eager for an October release and we can understand that you might feel that our European cousins’ potentially getting the game before you is frustrating to say the least. However, there’s a reason for everything and although we feel that the game is truly at ‘AAA’ level, that reason is that we want Two Worlds II to be absolutely flawless when it launches in the North American market. Although we could bring the game to market earlier in order to take advantage of the holiday buying season, we felt that we would do a better service to you by making sure that the game you want is absolutely as it should be. It’s vital to us that we always give you the best possible information and this is the reason that we haven’t commented on the date before now; we did not want to say something to you, only to have that information change once again. Now, we are in a position to confirm the January release date.

Uncharted animation techniques “not true to the performance of an actor,” say Ninja Theory

Ninja Theory co-founder Tameem Antoniades is “amazed” at the quality of Uncharted 2‘s animation, considering that Naughty Dog employ what he believes to be inefficient techniques.
Speaking during BAFTA presentation on the creation of Enslaved: Odyssey to the West last night, Antoniades said, “In Uncharted 2, [Naughty Dog] captured voice in a booth, then did motion capture to the voices.”
“After that, they hand-animated the faces to match that. So you have three different people working on a single performance, which I don’t think is the right way to do it if you want to create a believable character.”
“I’m actually amazed at how good their scenes are, considering they’ve done it that way. I don’t think that it’s true to the performance of an actor.”
Initially unhappy with the way the story was reported by SPOnG, Antoniades clarified his thoughts by saying, “I am a huge fan of Naughty dog in all aspects of development. I see them as the setting the gold standard in action adventure game in all areas including animation.

Report: Ignition Entertainment to close London studio by October 31

Ignition Entertainment has laid-off an undisclosed number of employees and is in the process of shutting down its London offices.
According to a report over on GI.Biz, internal development at the location will cease by the end of October, with the firm hoping to outsource more projects to Ignition studios in Austin, Florida, Japan or Beijing.
Current projects from the London office, Wardevil and Project Kane, have passed the proof of concept stage, with internal development winding down on both.
The firm still plans to retain offices in London for its publishing arm, which will release Hothead Games’ platformer SWARM on PSN and XBL in 2011.
“Throughout the last year Ignition, has gone through a number of changes, including bringing in a strong new management team with a core focus of working with the world’s best external developers to bring AAA content to emerging downloadable platforms,” said group chairman Hassan Sadiq.
