Madden 11 Patch #2 Details
The first highly anticipated patch for Madden 11 arrived today for the PS3 and 360. The patch brings back in the classic pre-play controls that were removed and replaced with the “Strategy Pad”. It also adds in “Madden Moments Live” which will present new moments throughout the year for purchase. Those represent the most significant developments from this patch while one intended to address issues and improve gameplay is being targeted to release by the end of the month. Pre-Play Functionality
• You asked for it, you got it! Pre-play functionality makes its return to Madden. A new menu option called, “Strategy Pad Shortcuts” is available. When turned on, you will see the hot routes, coverage audible, and shifts menus using the same buttons as Madden NFL 10.
Ultimate Team Improvements
• You can now view your opponent’s lineup in Ultimate Team
• New item tiers added
Breast Cancer Awareness Month
• Breast cancer awareness mode is now available for play. You can access it by scrolling right from “Play Now”. In addition, franchise games that take place in October (in Franchise mode, not next month) will be given this theme. The Madden team is proud to support the NFL in the fight against breast cancer.

BioWare reveals Mass Effect 2 stats
Mass Effect franchise executive producer Casey Hudson has revealed a few numbers of note about their RPG sequel Mass Effect 2; the developer — like many others — collects data anonymously to observe player behavior, and a few interesting things they show indeed.
Over 50% of players took advantage of one of the game’s more talked about features and imported their save from the first Mass Effect game. “That to me is quite high,” Hudson says. However, only roughly half of those who start the adventure ever get around to finishing it.
There are those of course who pick up the slack and finish is more than once. Or, in some rare cases, a few dozen times; two PC and four Xbox 360 players love the sci-fi RPG enough to have completed it a whopping 28 and 23 times, respectively. That’s a lot.
The stats between the two platforms are generally similar, but not always: “One difference was the people who did certain loyalty missions on the Xbox versus the PC, which is kind of surprising. On the PC for example, people did Miranda’s loyalty mission quite a bit, which is where she is trying to connect with her sister and it’s more of a touchy-feely plot. Not a lot of Xbox 360 players did that one. But the Xbox 360 players did do Grunt’s mission a lot more than PC players.”

id’s Rage at “tuning” stage
According to id Software design director Matt Hooper, the studio’s upcoming – and gorgeous – action title Rage is currently at a “tuning” stage. Hooper’s explained that all gameplay elements are present, but at this stage, the studio has a lot of fine tuning details to do, which expectedly will take quite a while.
“Most of the elements are present but it’s a big game and there are a lot of different gameplay elements,” he said. ”When you go through everything – vehicle combat, the shooter elements, complex NPC interaction, mini-games – there’s a lot there so it takes a long time to polish all of those elements.”
Hooper also commented on why the game has taken this much time to develop. If you can’t recall its announcement, it was back in 2007. The simultaneous release on PC, Mac, PS3 and Xbox 360 sure makes people break a sweat or two, but building a game that’ll “run at 60fps on all the platforms” on a “brand new technology” (referring to the id Tech 5 engine) made the development stretch a bigger one than expected.
“That was a big change from what we’ve done in the past, so that’s the thing that caused the most amount of work.”
The game is still a year from being released. Nonetheless, it looks gorgeous already and will probably be worth the wait, mark our words.

Hands-on / Enslaved: Odyssey to the West
Namco Bandai handed me a long list of things I couldn’t tell you about my hands-on with Enslaved: Odyssey to the West, but the funny thing is I’ve got an even longer list of things I don’t want to tell you because they’re so damn awesome.
Enslaved is the latest title from Ninja Theory, the guys behind the high-profile PS3 exclusive Heavenly Sword. If you didn’t already know that though you could probably have guessed; the art style is strikingly similar, and there are several references to the team’s last game through characters models etc. The similarities end there however, because past that Enslaved is an entirely different beast; sure there’s a hefty amount of fist-smashing, stick thumping action to take part in, but there’s also a big focus on platforming and puzzle solving that make this a promising title.
The first chapter of the game does a great job of introducing us to both the characters and the key gameplay components. As we start up, Monkey knows as little about what’s going on as the player does; he’s being held being held captive aboard a slave ship, not knowing where he’s headed. It’s not long before he’s free however, and that’s when the game hands it over to us.
Straight away –and I really do mean straight away – it’s clear that Ninja Theory took a heck of a lot of inspiration from the Uncharted series; the set pieces, explosions, and platforming all reek of Nathan Drake’s adventures, only (whisper it) on a bigger scale. Monkey can pull off the same exaggerated leaps and bounds as Drake but his muscular form makes it slightly more believable. The scenery he scales isn’t as organic as everything you can jump/grab onto is highlighted, but that makes for a more fast paced system that sees Monkey swiftly jump from place to place.
