NHL 2K11 iPhone Impressions

Being Canadian I can tell you first hand that there are certain things expected of us. We have to be overly nice (not really true), like bacon (very true), say things completely wrong (about, eh?!), and most of all – love hockey. Now I’ll admit up front that I’m a much bigger fan of the NBA or NFL, but hockey is religion to us Canadians. Even if there are some of us that hate it, when our team plays on a national level the whole country stops.
With that said, I love hockey video games. EA’s NHL series is near and dear to my heart and it’s somewhat surprising that a licensed NHL game hasn’t found its way to the iPhone earlier. Being that hockey games have always made for a fun and fast experience on consoles it can be considered shocking that the sport is so underrepresented on the iPhone. But after a long wait (especially for us Canucks), 2K’s NHL 2K11 has arrived. More so, it holds up relatively well for a first time effort.
It is important to point out that NHL 2K11 is available for only .99 in the App Store. That in itself is an incredible price point considering this is a full-fledged NHL licensed product. Comparing it to the price points of some of EA’s licensed products make it a bargain right off the bat.

The requirements of a Hot Pursuit
In a very short – yet to the point – entry on the NFS blog, the minimum specs required to run Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit on a PC were posted. And, in an effort to keep it just as short and just as relevant as the source, we won’t break it, so here goes:
Operating System: Windows XP SP 3 (32-64 bits) / Windows Vista (32-64 bits) / Windows 7 (32-64 bits)
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo 1.8 GHZ or AMD Athlon X2 64 2.4GHZ
Memory: 1.5 GB Windows XP / 2 GB Windows Vista – Windows 7
Disc drive: DVD-ROM, 8 speed
Hard drive: 6.5 GB
Video card: 256 MB DirectX 9.0 compliant card with Shader Model 3.0 or higher
Sound card: DirectX 9.0 –compliant sound card
Compatible video card chip sets: ATI RADEON X1950, HD 2000/3000/4000/5000 series NVIDIA GeForce 7/8/9/100/200 series

Remember, these are just the minimum specs required to run the game so anything above the aforementioned should make you feel proud of that rig of yours.
Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit will launch on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC on November 16 and the 18th, NA and EU respectively.

Apache: Air Assault given a November date
Activision has dated its Gaijin-developed chopper sim Apache: Air Assault for November 9th, 2010, the publisher’s announced.
The date — flown in by the fresh batch of screens viewable above and below — goes for North America only, but chances are the European version will be hot on its tail with the customary Friday release (Nov. 12th).

NBA 2K11 My Player Adds Press Conferences
Quite a bit coming out today for NBA 2K11 and here is another new nugget of info. There really hasn’t been much of anything said about improvements to My Player mode until now, with 2K Sports revealing the addition of post-game press conferences. “In NBA 2K11 you gotta take the podium for your own post-game press conferences. But watch what you say, your answers can earn you admiration or get you run out of town. Will you claim all the glory or will you praise your coaches?”
It remains to be seen what sort of impact press conferences would have on the career trajectory or playing time. In past games attempting something along these lines really didn’t mean much or it turned out to be too limited in scope and options. However it is at least a good sign that the mode is being worked on as it was pretty flat last year. Bringing in anything to spice it up with off the court elements is welcome.

Update / Rumor: Redesigned 360 controller in 2010
Update: Microsoft’s confirmed it at Gamestop’s annual managers meeting, Slashgamer reports. No prices or dates yet, but the company’s apparently getting ready to announce is tomorrow.
Original story: Microsoft will be launching a new and improved version of the Xbox 360′s controller before the year’s out, Joystiq has it “on good authority.”
According to the site’s “trusted source”, most of the current design will remain the same, but the much picked-upon d-pad is in for quite a change. When rotated 90 degrees, it’s said to raise up about a quarter of an inch; a design that works better with fighting games for example.
Whether this will be a stand-alone controller or is meant to replace the current design in all packaging, as well as any other details, go unmentioned.?

Dead Space 2 multiplayer reveal in September
Visceral Games will be revealing the so-far-hush-hush multiplayer mode of sci-fi horror shooter Dead Space 2 in a few weeks’ time, publishing mothership EA revealed via event invites today.
The online play is said to involve necromorphs, humans, and picking sides, but the details will have to wait.
The reveal’s happening in less than two weeks.
