Explodemon Still On For Wii?
I was really looking forward to Explodemon on Wii, but unfortunately the game seems to have gone PS3 exclusive – at least for now. Ed Fear the PR manager for developers, Curve Studios has given hope that one day the game might make it to Nintendo’s console and PSP and PC as originally planned.
Let’s hope so, it looks awesome!
“For the moment, we’re focusing only on the PS3 version. We’re a small(ish) company, so it doesn’t make sense for us to split our limited resources between several different versions, especially given that there’d be quite major graphical differences for the Wii/PSP editions. So, in order to really make Explodemon shine, we’re putting all of our efforts into the PS3 version. (We will) seriously evaluate other targets once we’ve shipped the PS3 version.”

Sharp rise for Kinect pre-orders

Kinect has ousted quite a bit of doubt surrounding Microsoft’s choice to price the motion sensor at £129.99, as pre-orders for the device are on a sharp rise.
In a report by MCV, at the way things are proceeding, “sources” are expecting pre-orders to reach the 500,000 bar in the UK by launch day.
Kinect’s popularity is also a sign of the times for retailers, as the Kinect was initially condemned by key voices for being priced over £100. Now that it’s showing promise of its success, the same key voices are praising the price tag as “reflective of the product’s playability and appeal to a wide range of customers”.
Phil Moore, sales director for Grainger Games, further elaborates on the matterV: “We have taken a large number of deposits for Kinect already and it is set to become our biggest pre-order to date. This tells us the device’s appeal has not been affected by the price point.”
With Kinect showing hard proof of its impending popularity, it may be about time for Sony to start making its next move (nudge, nudge) to match the motion control wars by the end of this year.
First NBA 2K11 Hands-on Preview

IGN has posted up the first hands-on preview for NBA 2K11. Most of the focus is on player control, the lack of which has been one of the central complaints towards the 2K series over the years. That looks to change this year with animations that can be broken out of and refined controls. The game will also receive some new options including Total Control Passing and a new play calling system with plays designed for individuals, both of which were first introduced last year in NBA Live 10.
While I’m happy to report that this year’s NBA 2K still looks wonderfully polished even in the early build I just played, gone are all of those canned animations that constrained some of the action to looking more like a movie than a user-controlled basketball game.
What do you think of the new details on NBA 2K11 and the improvements made to gameplay? Leave your thoughts in the comments!

Pressure of being a PS3 launch developer not fun for Ninja Theory

Hype can be a strange force, bringing people together to form lines at local GameStops, throw parties, and dress up in costumes mothers wouldn’t be able to recognize their own children in. Imagine if these hype-sedated people were to do all of these things for something you created–pretty neat, right?
According to Ninja Theory, it’s not, as the company’s head honcho, Tameem Antoniades, revealed in an interview that the hype–or rather, the pressure–isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be.
Reflecting back on the company’s days of being a developer for PS3 launch title Heavenly Sword, Antoniades stated: “I think all the hype surrounding PlayStation 3 wasn’t particularly enjoyable for us, and the other reason I like to underplay things is that – despite what anybody says – on a creative project, you just never know if it’s gonna work until it all comes together right at the very end.”
With upcoming title Enslaved: Odyssey to the West on the rise, Antoniades made it clear that he’s enjoying the fact the company’s laying low. “I personally feel much more comfortable now we’re lower profile. It’s better to be the underdog so you can surpass expectations.”
Look for the lower profile game to be released October 5th in the US and October 8th in the UK.
Info on the Upcoming NCAA Football 11 Patch

Though NCAA Football 11 has been received extremely well it was inevitable that there would be issues discovered with the game in serious need of being addressed. The biggest ones have been the QBs getting stuck in animations (PA rollout screen plays) and running backwards for safeties and generated recruits coming in with some terrible ratings resulting in really weak teams after a few years in dynasty.
According to EA Sports the next patch for NCAA 11 is on track to arrive sometime in mid-August. They have posted a blog that goes over some of what to expect in the upcoming patch. Additionally this year they have “Live Tuning Packages” which allows them to update some aspects of the game without going through the patch process. The dynasty issue and other gameplay tweaks may be attacked through that method instead which would be a pleasant surprise. Continue on to check out the full write-up and leave your thoughts in the comments!
IT’S THE SOUND YOU’VE WAITED DAYS TO HEAR…
With a nod to my favorite NCAA Football intro video, first things first… I’m happy to report that a title update is coming soon. Look for this in about two-to-three weeks or so (currently estimating mid-August). We’ll communicate the official dates as soon as they’re locked in.
This new update covers a variety of fixes and improvements. The team will release more details in the coming days, but I wanted to provide a few highlights as well as discuss one final game “feature” that we have yet to formally announce. First some background…

‘10 million units,’ says BioWare

Successful people set high goals, it’s just the way things work; It just so happens that EA’s BioWare just likes to set them a little higher, as vice president and co-founder Greg Zeschuk said in an interview that they’d like to see every title sell at least 10 million copies.
“We need to sell 10 million units. That’s actually the new target, right?” Zeschuk said, plain and simple.
“We do Top 10 games, or stuff is quite successful. I know [Mass Effect 2] is number eight so far this year, in North America. Sometimes I’m facetious when I say some of those things, knowing that we can sell a few million but seeing that someone else can sell 25. You’re kinda like, ‘Well, that’s a hit!’”
BioWare’s newfound determination to reach beyond 8th place is inspiring, sure, but who knows? Maybe 8th is the new 1st.
Zeschuk went on to say: “We always joke that if we only do half as well as Blizzard on Star Wars: The Old Republic, we’ll be quite satisfied. We’ve been very fortunate.”
