Video Explaining Issues with the Strategy Pad

Ever since the release of the demo for Madden 11 the community has been up-in-arms as it relates to the Strategy Pad which moved all pre-snap adjustments to the D-Pad. There are certainly multiple valid reasons why people are upset about the new procedure being introduced but one that may be harder to explain is how it “just doesn’t feel right”. GoMadden has put together a video that goes over in more technical detail why the placement of the D-Pad on the controller makes the change one of more tedious nature and unnatural movement. Bungie, creator of Halo, is moving to a bigger, better, and more badass development studio.
The team that brought us the Halo trilogy, plus ODST, and the upcoming Halo: Reach are shipping out of their old digs, and moving to the grandest, most spectacularly wonderful building ever.
Well, perhaps that last piece was a bit of of a hyperbole, but the above image is just one of the many gloriouss shot Bungie snapped as the movers…move all Bungie’s gear to the new place.
Wow. Just wow is all I can say. Also, I want a tour. What about you?

Capcom Talks 3DS Launch Titles, Development Costs

Unfortunately it seems like Resident Evil Revelations or StreetFighter IV 3D won’t make it for the launch of the 3DS. Let’s hope they come out soon after!

Battlefield 1943 eludes PC, EA dishes out pre-order paybacks

A continuing point of curiosity and speculation, the PC release for Battlefield 1943 grew another twist today. Previous attempts to acquire a refund for pre-orders were reportedly met with the assurance of a release date. This date was July 9, 2010. Needless to say…
At any rate the official release date courtesy of the Battlefield 1943 website remains a reassurance invoking “TBD”. This brings us up to July 30, 2010. Apparently realizing that a “no questions asked” refund would be easier than currently assigning a release date, EA has offered just this to customers and offered this statement to VG247: ”All pre-orders can be canceled with refund at anytime and we do not have any further information at this time about a release date for the PC version of Battlefield 1943.”
While being sensible enough to offer up refunds for a product with an unknown release, this move is unsettling for PC gamers already wondering how long they’ll be waiting.

EA Sports Responds to Madden 11 Strategy Pad Controversy

With the overwhelming negative response to the Strategy Pad in Madden 11 it was only a matter of time before EA Sports would officially respond. That came even a little quicker than expected with a new blog that has just been released that goes over the reasoning behind the change while acknowledging the uproar and communicating the ultimate solution. The old style of pre-snap adjustments will be patched into the game though it will probably be September by the time it arrives.
We do believe that this change is for the better, and that in the long run it delivers a much more positive experience to the gamers that are willing to try and adapt. Due to the overwhelming feedback however, we will be providing the old-style button commands as an option that can be enabled. We are currently targeting this change to be released around the first week of the NFL season as it will take some time to get through third party approvals.
Patching in the old controls while leaving the Strategy Pad as the default made the most logical sense of anything that could be done. If EA believes that the Strategy Pad is more welcoming to inexperienced gamers and solves some issues then great, however having the old way of doing things as an option is only fair to those who have bought the game year after year. They have made other changes in the game but have continued to make them optional, however in this case for some reason overlooked the potential reaction that would come from removing it completely.

Ubisoft evolves multiplayer in Tom Clancy’s H.A.W.X. 2

The lack of a proper multiplayer portion in Ubisoft’s first dogfighting entry in the Tom Clancy franchise was probably one of the turn-off’s of H.A.W.X., something the developer seems to be remedying in Tom Clancy’s H.A.W.X. 2.
As described by Eurogamer, H.A.W.X. 2 will feature six mission types and a will have all of the game’s 32 pilotable aircrafts available and up for grabs. Aerial disputes will be settled by up to eight players at a time, locally or online. In addition, the game will feature a full on 4-player co-op in free-flight, survival and arcade modes.
H.A.W.X. 2 will invade European and North American retail skies on September 3rd and 7th, respectively.
