BioWare interested in creating more new IP

Despite releasing two new AAA intellectual properties in as many years, BioWare has interest in creating yet another new property; the RPG masters “would love to build some new IPs and settings that are different than the ones we’ve currently got, while continuing to build within the frameworks of the franchises we’ve got, too,” BioWare CEO Ray Muzyka said in a recent chat with GameInformer. “We’re going to have a mix of all those things going forward.”
BioWare’s portfolio includes “a lot of different things short term and long term,” Muzyka revealed, along with “different business models, different levels of risk, different IPs, different technologies.”
Having already released massively popular fantasy and sci-fi RPGs, one can only wonder what settings those different IPs could take place in.
Final Fantasy XIII selling faster then any other Final Fantasy game in UK history

Hot of the heels of hitting the 5 million shipped milestone, Square Enix has announced that Final Fantasy XIII has become both the fastest selling UK game of 2010 and the fastest selling Final Fantasy game ever released in country. The RPG has also become 2010’s fastest selling game in both Germany and France, and according to Squeenix, these sales have helped pushed total worldwide numbers of the entire franchise past 96 million units.
However, it looks like the Japanese publisher isn’t contempt with their current European sales. “With high profile TV spots playing out beyond Easter and branded buses still travelling the country I’m positive this title is only going to get bigger and bigger,” said Jon Brooke, UK Marketing Director for Square Enix.

Valve considers Steam’s arrival on OS X to be service’s “biggest event”

You may have already heard that Steam is arriving on Mac this April, terrific news for anyone who has encountered the dilemma of an acquired fondness for both Valve’s games and Apple’s Macs. Reassuringly Valve is taking the port and launch pretty darned seriously. With multiple teams’ input ensuring a worthwhile endeavor, Valve are regarding it “to be the biggest event in Steam’s history since the service was first launched”.
Valve’s director of Steam development, John Cook, mentions that encouraging input from third party publishers is “one of the primary goals” for the service’s future, noting that they are presently “having discussions with all the 1,000 publishers and developers currently offering their games on Steam”.
Given their past successes, Valve is deservedly optimistic of Steam’s growth on the Mac, regarding it to be “a similar, but much shorter, process” when compared to the service’s expansion on PC.
