NBA Jam Debut Trailer
Remember the old days back in 1993 when we were playing in arcades, jamming a basketball through the hoop with stars such as Patrick Ewing, Dominique Wilkins, Scottie Pippen, Karl Malone, Tim Hardaway, and yes even Shaq. Most of those names will immediately strike fond memories us gamers had of schooling our friends in an [...]

Ubisoft developing a role-playing game?

It appears that Ubisoft has started work on an internally-developed role-playing game; According to a LinkedIn profile of one Zhou Min, the French company is working on an “RPG title” for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 platforms. As news pieces originating from LinkedIn profiles usually go, the information stops there, however could this be the Final Fantasy that Ubisoft’s European, Middle East, and Asia/Pacific territories’ executive director Alain Corre spoke of late last year?
“People often say that Japan is packed with hardcore gamers, and it’s important to understand what it is they’re looking for,” he said in December. “Our mission is to create hit games on the same level as Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest. We’d like to see everyone in Japan root for us. Perhaps someday our efforts will result in a major hit on the level of a Dragon Quest.”

The Line Drive 3/14

The Line Drive is a weekly collection of news, links, and updates that didn’t necessarily warrant their own postings.
- Three new mascots have been announced for NCAA Football 11 so far. Oregon’s Donald Duck, Texas Tech’s “Raider Red”, and Stanford gets “The Tree” in. You can see them in the screenshot gallery.
- The pre-order deal for Tiger Woods 11 at Gamestop will be a free download of the Riviera Golf Club.
- The PS3 version of Tiger Woods 11 will include support for the Playstation Move. The motion controller was recently unveiled at GDC to less than enthusiastic reaction but seems well suited for golf. It is expected out this fall.
Sword & Sworcery EP gameplay videos appear
Thanks to GDC, we finally have some gameplay footage of Capybara and Superbrothers’ Sword & Sworcery EP, the mysterious “experimental I/O cinema” adventure game that was announced for the iPhone last year. The videos unveil two different gameplay modes that are toggled by switching the iPhone’s orientation. Holding the device horizontally activates “sworcery” mode, where the player can move the camera around to observe and hone in the sights and sounds of the surrounding environment, whereas holding it vertically puts the game in “sword” mode, ideal for dispatching baddies. The game looks and sounds incredible and I’m already beginning to hear overwhelmingly positive reactions from those that spent time with it on the GDC show floor. Definitely keep an eye out for this one.
Look below for the second video, which demonstrates “sword” mode.
