With appearances expected from Fable III, Alan Wake, Halo: Reach, Final Fantasy XII, Splinter Cell Conviction, Crackdown 2 and the Microsoft Game Room, X10 is certainly shaping up to be quite an event. Rest assured, we’ll be covering it from the get-go next week.

Dragon Quest VI remake approaches 1m Japanese sales in first week

dqvibox251 Dragon Quest VI remake approaches 1m Japanese sales in first week
The debut of the Dragon Quest VI remake for DS proves that a Dragon Quest game doesn’t have to be entirely new to sell like crazy in Japan — just new enough. In its first week at retail, January 25-31, the new version of the classic Super Famicom RPG sold 906,458 copies, according to Media Create, making it by far the top-selling game of the week.

A pair of other newly-released RPGs also did quite well: the PS3 version of tri-Ace’s shooty-RPG End of Eternity (we call it “Resonance of Fate”) landed in second place on the weekly software chart with 118,088 units sold (the Xbox version charted respectably at #8, selling 27,048 units) and Ar Tonelico 3 hit #4 with 81,633 copies sold. Even the Japanese release of MAG managed to make it into the top ten!

See the complete weekly top ten sales list after the break.

L.A. Noire no longer PS3 exclusive, also on Xbox 360, Game Informer says

lanoirecover580 L.A. Noire no longer PS3 exclusive, also on Xbox 360, Game Informer says

At long last, the never-ending mystery of whether Rockstar’s “gritty detective tale,” L.A. Noire, will be a multiplatform release has … well, ended. And in a pretty unspectacular way, to boot — in the comments section of a Game Informer post teasing the magazine’s in-depth print preview of L.A. Noire, editor Matthew Kato explained, “It’s not a PS3-exclusive,” later adding, “it was at one point, but it’s coming out for the PS3 and 360.” (We’ve contacted Rockstar to verify this apparent reveal.)

Now, we won’t know whether this news is worth getting excited about until Game Informer’s preview hits newsstands. We’re getting tentatively pumped, though — but that’s only because of our pure, unswerving love of fedoras. Seriously, we can’t get enough of ‘em.

Final Fantasy XIII’s soundtrack, now on vinyl

ff13record2510 Final Fantasy XIIIs soundtrack, now on vinyl
Square Enix hasn’t announced a release for the Final Fantasy XIII soundtrack outside of Japan. Instead, it has announced a second FFXIII music release in Japan that is going to make you even more jealous. On February 26, the publisher will release a collection of eight songs from Masashi Hamauzu’s Final Fantasy XIII score on a 12-inch record, including an exclusive version of “Ragnarok.”

The limited-edition vinyl record, W/F: Music from Final Fantasy XIII, is exclusive to Square Enix’s E-store. Importer NCSX secured a shipment of the record through one of its vendors, but that has already sold out. Maybe we’ll have better luck when Square releases the eight tracks on 8-track.

Roger Daltrey-signed guitar periphs auctioned for Teenage Cancer Trust

gamsignedguitarthewho580 Roger Daltrey signed guitar periphs auctioned for Teenage Cancer Trust

It’s a well-known fact that anything signed by a founding member of The Who is immediately imbued with supernatural properties. Imagine, if you will, the raw, unbridled power a Rock Band guitar would gain if tenderly handled and Hancocked by frontman Roger Daltrey. We’re pretty sure it would be incapable of missing notes at that point.

Such an artifact is now attainable, if you’re willing to dish out enough cash to claim it. Daltrey and peripheral manufacturer Mad Catz have teamed up to auction off a pair of classy Wooden Fender Stratocaster guitar controllers for Xbox 360. The proceeds from the auctions will support the Teenage Cancer Trust, a U.K. charity which funds special oncology units in hospitals which “enable young people to be treated together, by an expert team, in the best possible environment for their age group.” These auctions are a great cause — with some extremely rocking benefits.

The auctions are up right now, and will run until next Thursday. Also, we can’t think of an appropriate pun to end this post, but if we write about Roger Daltrey and don’t link to the “YEEEEEEAAAHHH” button, we’re contractually obligated to resign.

Inafune hints at overseas release for Monster Hunter Frontier

mhf2510 Inafune hints at overseas release for Monster Hunter Frontier
Not all Monster Hunter games make it outside of Japan. The Wii port of Monster Hunter G, for example, was passed over, as was Monster Hunter Frontier, the PC MMO upon which the upcoming Xbox 360 game is based. That’s why it’s noteworthy that Capcom’s Keiji Inafune told Famitsu (according to Andriasang’s translation) that “I feel Monster Hunter can definitely succeed overseas. There’s a high possibility that MHF will kickstart that.” For such a kickstart to take place, the game would have to be released overseas.

Unless, of course, it’s already kickstarted by Monster Hunter Tri, coming out in North America and Europe this April, right?

Demon’s Souls replacement guides ship next week

demonssouls580main2 Demons Souls replacement guides ship next week

If you were among the unlucky number of gamers to suffer printing issues on the Demon’s Souls strategy guide, we have some good news. Atlus has announced that the replacement guides will begin shipping this Monday, February 8. Late last year, after discovering that many Demon’s Souls collector’s edition guides had “unusual cover ink wear / fading” problems, Atlus opened a replacement program.

Thankfully, the company didn’t deprive gamers of their guides in the meantime, requiring that only the cover be sent as proof of the defect. It’s a good thing too, because that game is effing hard. Seriously, look at that thing up there. You’re supposed to kill that? With a sword? Hard!
