ESRB apologises for accusing DOA: Paradise of “creepy voyeurism”

dead or alive paradise psp ESRB apologises for accusing DOA: Paradise of “creepy voyeurism”

The ESRB has retracted a classification of forthcoming PSP fighter Dead or Alive: Paradise as containing “creepy voyeurism” and “bizarre, misguided notions of what women really want.”

ESRB spokesman Eliot Mizrachi today apologized for the description (via GamePolitics), which failed to maintain the US ratings board’s objective stance.

“Our intention with rating summaries is to provide useful, detailed descriptions of game content that are as objective and informative as possible,” said Mizrachi. “However they are ultimately written by people and, in this case, we mistakenly posted a rating summary that included what some could rightfully take to be subjective statements.”

“We sincerely regret the error and will work to prevent this from happening again in the future.” The description has since been revised.

While not in keeping with their aims, it is worth noting that the ESRB is an industry body and the ratings are voluntary. As such there is no law dictating that they remain objective. Also, the description in question was damn funny. Read the whole thing after the break.

Wii and DS versions of Ivy the Kiwi? revealed

ivy2410 Wii and DS versions of Ivy the Kiwi? revealed
Prope and publisher Bandai Namco sent out the first screens and footage (after the break) of the new Wii and DS versions of the once-Windows Mobile exclusive Ivy the Kiwi?, thus forcing us to fill another post with question marks? Okay, we didn’t need that one.

The presentation on the console versions of the game is identical to the original, with the unusual sepia-tone color scheme and hand-drawn backgrounds. Both new versions double the number of levels, bringing the game up to a total of 100. And both new versions have multiplayer: local download play on DS and splitscreen on Wii. And, of course, the DS has a map screen. Why not?

Team Fortress 2 update adds Highlander mode

demoman121509 Team Fortress 2 update adds Highlander mode

It’s indicative of Valve’s creativity that we don’t play Team Fortress 2, but we still get excited about the game’s hilarious updates. In its most recent patch, TF2 received the new “Highlander” mode, in which teams are composed of nine players — but each team can only have one of each class. In other words, “There can be only one (Spy, Sniper, Heavy, etc.).” This not only sounds like an interesting new mode, but it also gives us occasion to link to the intro for the Highlander television series, which scientists recently concluded is the coolest intro sequence in the history of mankind.

We’re also guessing the ultra-Scottish Demoman class gets some sort of intangible benefits while playing in this mode, but that’s just pure speculation.

L.A. Noire gets unconfidential in Game Informer debut

lanoirecover580 L.A. Noire gets unconfidential in Game Informer debut

As promised, Rockstar’s shadowy L.A. Noire has stepped out of the shadows and into the flashbulbs of a Game Informer cover. The magazine has a 10-page feature on the game, highlighting its facial animation and, oh yeah, the recreation of 1947 Los Angeles. Pick up a copy of the magazine for the details or we’re sure you can get the information from the dark alleyways of the internet.

As for the ongoing saga about what platforms the game is being developed for, neither Game Informer nor Rockstar will comment until the magazine is on shelves.
